World of Warcraft Fan Finds Evidence of Previously Removed Location

Highlights

  • A player discovered evidence of GM Island in WoW Remix by using The Warband Map and Kalimdor Scouting Map together.
  • GM Island, a relic from WoW’s past, was once a mysterious location for GMs and misbehaving players.

As a seasoned World of Warcraft (WoW) player with decades of gaming under my belt, I must say I was absolutely thrilled to learn about the reemergence of GM Island in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria. This discovery is like finding an old treasure map leading to a long-lost pirate’s booty, only this booty is filled with memories of WoW’s past!

As a passionate World of Warcraft (WoW) enthusiast, I stumbled upon GM Island in the WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria by combining two unique map discovery items. This hidden location within WoW, often referred to as a developer-exclusive spot, was supposedly eliminated from the game six years ago. However, my findings hint that this enigmatic area may have survived in some form, sparking intrigue and excitement among fellow players.

In the unique, time-limited experience called “WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria,” players revisit the 12-year-old expansion while enjoying contemporary features. The goal is to collect numerous achievements and cosmetics. During this “World of Warcraft” event, characters created in this mode can only depart from Pandaria in a few specific situations until it ends.

It appears that while engaged in Timerunner gameplay within World of Warcraft, player Mechgyrasaur stumbled upon an unusual artifact from the past – the GM Island. This location was previously used by moderators before it was taken out of the game six years ago. Using the recently introduced Warband Map to Everywhere All At Once in World of Warcraft: The War Within’s Pre-Patch, and the Kalimdor Scouting Map toy, Mechgyrasaur managed to locate this hidden gem that is not visible on any other in-game map.

What is GM Island in World of Warcraft?

The enigmatic GM Isle, situated far northwest of Kalimdor, beyond Teldrassil, was a region shrouded in mystery. It lay within uncharted territories and dangerous zones, making access nearly impossible without special exploits or GM authority. This secluded area served as a hub for Game Masters to navigate the game world and as a detention center for players who misbehaved early in the game’s development, earning them an early time-out. Although not officially part of Azeroth, the EU WoW website featured a short story about two characters on GM Isle. Regrettably, GM Isle was eliminated from the game with Patch 8.2 during the Battle for Azeroth, primarily due to the game no longer relying on in-game moderation.

Regardless, following Mechgyrasaur’s directions consistently will lead players to the same spots. It came as a surprise to fans when they found out that GM Island persists in some form, sparking jokes about it becoming a new zone for WoW: The War Within, and theories on how this glitch occurred originally. Their amusement peaked with the discovery of the second location called “Delete ME” – another artifact that surfaced from behind the development veil using the same glitch.

Regrettably, the special edition of World of Warcraft called “World of Warcraft Remix: Mists of Pandaria” will conclude at 7 AM PDT on August 20th. If players still wish to complete their WoW Remix achievements, gather a bit more Bronze, or explore GM Island using that particular glitch before time runs out, they have only a few hours left as the event is about to end.
