World of Warcraft: How to Get Ashes of Al'ar

As a nostalgic player who has journeyed through the vast landscapes of Azeroth since its very beginning, I can confidently say that one of my most cherished memories is the pursuit and eventual acquisition of the elusive Ashes of Al’ar mount. This magnificent phoenix-like creature was the epitome of prestige during The Burning Crusade expansion, and obtaining it felt like a true accomplishment.

In the initial phase of World of Warcraft, most riders shared similar mounts, but things changed significantly with The Burning Crusade. This update provided Blizzard a chance to introduce more diversity, and they certainly lived up to it. Throughout the expansion, players were able to collect a wide range of distinctive mounts such as the Netherwing Drakes and Nether Rays.

Later on, some mounts capable of flight were introduced, serving as symbols of prestige for players who excelled in endgame activities. These included the gladiator mounts from Arena battles and the well-known Ashes of Al’ar from Tempest Keep. To obtain a miniature replica of Kael’thas’s phoenix pet, here is the method to secure the Ashes of Al’ar mount.

To obtain the Ashes of Al’ar, make your way to Tempest Keep – a colossal airborne fortress. This imposing structure is located in the northernmost region of Outland, known as Netherstorm. The simplest route to reach Netherstorm is by using a portal to Shattrath City and then soaring northeastwards.

In Tempest Keep, there are three dungeons and a large-scale area for raiding. If your aim is to get the Ashes of Al’ar, you should focus on the raid. You can access it through the central building that links to the pipe. Remember, it’s recommended to be at least level 45 or higher before attempting this raid solo.

In contrast to many other raids, Tempest Keep, or The Eye as it’s also called, has four main battles. However, unlike most other fights, you can bypass all of them and go directly to Kael’thas. It’s important to note that although Al’ar is a boss within Tempest Keep, the mount isn’t obtained from that specific encounter.

During your battle with Kael’thas, you’ll face his four advisors successively. It’s best to keep their fallen bodies close together for future advantages. Once all the advisors are defeated, Kael’thas will produce several weapons. In the past, during The Burning Crusade expansion, players were required to pick up and use these weapons to win the fight. However, nowadays, this step is no longer needed, so feel free to disregard them since they are temporary items that vanish after 15 minutes.

For approximately a minute, things will remain quiet. Rest assured, the battle isn’t over. The following segment will start soon.

In the new stage, make your way promptly to the slain advisors. Kael’thas plans to resurrect them, and you’ll need to confront all four simultaneously. Each advisor possesses some formidable crowd control abilities, and although it’s highly unlikely they can defeat you if you’re above Level 45, they can immobilize you temporarily.

To prevent this predicament, ensure that all four advisors are together from the beginning of the skirmish. Revive them swiftly, and promptly employ an area-of-effect skill to eliminate them simultaneously. This maneuver should allow you to engage Kael’thas in combat. As Kael’thas nears defeat, he’ll momentarily become invulnerable, marking the start of the final phase. Upon his return, you can successfully slay him, concluding the battle.

Among the loot that Kael’thas Sunstrider might bestow, the elusive Ashes of Al’ar are one of them. However, due to its drop rate hovering around 2%, acquiring this mount can feel like a marathon rather than a sprint – all depending on the luck of the draw for each player.

You can only clear Tempest Keep once a week for each character you have. However, since you might have several characters, you actually have the chance to clear it more than once weekly.

Other Methods For Acquiring the Ashes of Al’ar

If you’re finding Tempest Keep repetitive, there are alternative ways to obtain the Ashes of Al’ar. The Ashes can sometimes be purchased on the Black Market Auction House, or they might be found within an Unclaimed Black Market Container.

This approach heavily depends on Random Number Generators too. Despite this, desirable items such as mounts often lead to costly bidding competitions. Although the Ashes of Al’ar might not reach the gold maximum like some rarer mounts do, getting the Ashes of Al’ar through the Black Market Auction House could still seriously drain your gold stock if not completely empty it. If you’d rather preserve some gold, it would be more beneficial to station a few characters outside Tempest Keep and farm it on a weekly basis instead.

Another possibility is that you might obtain Ashes of Al’ar from the Timewarped Treasure Cache, a prize awarded upon completion of the Timewalking Black Temple quest when the Burning Crusade Timewalking event is live.
