As a long-time fan of World of Warcraft, I was eagerly anticipating the release of Chronicle Volume 4. Having cleared countless dungeons and raids with both the Alliance and Horde throughout my gaming journey, I was excited to learn more about the lore behind these instances and see which factions emerged victorious.

The fourth volume of the World of Warcraft Chronicle has disclosed which in-game factions officially completed every dungeon and raid that occurred between Mists of Pandaria and Shadowlands. By merging this data with information gleaned from earlier volumes, fans now possess a clearer understanding of which World of Warcraft factions were responsible for clearing the majority of in-game instances.

For the first time in six years, Blizzard Entertainment has published a new lore book titled “World of Warcraft Chronicle Volume 4” for the popular game, World of Warcraft. This intriguing tome hit the shelves on July 16th and continues the narrative from where its predecessor ended. It delves into the intricacies of five expansions: Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and Shadowlands.

In the latest World of Warcraft book, several intriguing background facts are presented. Among these, one piece of information notably ties the WoW narrative together. Although most dungeons and raids within World of Warcraft can be completed by both factions, according to the game’s lore, some have been predominantly cleared by either the Alliance or Horde.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve made my way through every expansion up until Dragonflight in World of Warcraft. That being said, there’s no official record of who conquered the dungeons and raids within Dragonflight yet. But here’s the twist: Cross-faction play was introduced just before this expansion. Considering WoW: Dragonflight was centered around unity among factions, it’s a reasonable assumption that Alliance and Horde adventurers teamed up to tackle all its instances together.

In the enjoyment of discovering which factions were involved in clearing instances and admiring the stunning new artwork within it, the fourth volume of the World of Warcraft Chronicle did not escape criticism. The book predominantly retold the game’s events, offering minimal fresh information. Moreover, some sections jumbled the sequence of events in a confusing manner. For instance, in the game, the Alliance campaign in Battle for Azeroth now occurs before the Horde’s, yet Talanji’s jailbreak is what sends Jaina back to Kul Tiras. Although not as offensive as the racist stereotypes found in earlier works like The Dragonflight Codex and Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor, many fans were left wanting more from Chronicle Volume 4. Here’s hoping that the upcoming Exploring Azeroth: Islands & Isles book, releasing on October 1, manages to steer clear of these issues.
