World of Warcraft: Midnight Could See Dragonriding Come to Player Housing Neighborhoods

Recent discoveries within the game files suggest that World of Warcraft might introduce Skyriding race tracks in player housing areas with the upcoming Midnight expansion. This information surfaced shortly after the release of Patch 12.0, which prepared the game for the Midnight expansion’s launch on March 2nd.

On January 20th, World of Warcraft launched the Midnight pre-expansion update, bringing several changes to the game. A major part of this update adjusted player stats and item levels – a process known as a ‘squish’ – to simplify damage and healing numbers. Additionally, changes to how add-ons work went live. While some add-ons will still function, many will require updates to work with World of Warcraft: Midnight.

World of Warcraft May Add Some Friendly Neighborhood Skyriding Courses

Even though World of Warcraft: Midnight isn’t out until March 2nd, recent discoveries suggest players might soon have new activities in their player housing areas. Data found within the game’s beta files indicates that World of Warcraft could add Skyriding race courses to both Founder’s Point (for Alliance players) and Razorwind Shores (for Horde players). These courses are currently labeled “Going Postal” in the game files, which could be their official name. There appear to be three different race routes planned for each neighborhood, potentially offering six courses in total when Midnight launches. Currently, while players can use Skyriding to fly around these neighborhoods, there aren’t any actual race tracks. It’s important to remember that Blizzard hasn’t confirmed this information, so players should treat it as unconfirmed for now.

Skyriding, originally introduced with the Dragonflight expansion, has evolved to include all flying mounts in World of Warcraft. Unlike the previous, slower Steady Flight, Skyriding lets players fly much faster and requires more active control, encouraging awareness of the environment. This faster travel method has also enabled the creation of Skyriding race courses and events, like the Kalimdor Cup, across the various zones of Azeroth.

Skyriding races in World of Warcraft challenge players to fly through a course of magical rings as quickly as possible. Faster completion times earn better ranks and rewards. Completing these races also unlocks unique armor pieces players can use to customize their character’s appearance.

The Player Housing System Will Continue to Evolve

Player housing has been available for testing since December 2025, starting with Patch 11.2.7. When the final update for the War Within expansion launched, players who pre-ordered Midnight could choose a plot of land in either Founder’s Point or Razorwind Shores. Patch 12.0 added a new feature called Endeavors to these neighborhoods. By helping visiting craftspeople – like the Grummles of Pandaria and the Niffen of Zaralek Caverns – players collectively fill a progress bar, unlocking rewards as they work together. In the future, player housing will also include Hearthsteel, a special currency for buying unique decorations. Hearthsteel can be earned with real money or by exchanging in-game gold using a WoW Token.

Skyriding has become a well-loved part of World of Warcraft, so adding race courses to areas like Founder’s Point and Razorwind Shores could open the door to more events in those neighborhoods. As Blizzard continues to add features players have requested, like housing, fans are eager to see what else is planned for Skyriding during the Midnight expansion.
