World of Warcraft: Midnight’s Hardest Grinds and Expert Solutions on How to Get Past Them

This article was produced in collaboration with our sponsor, Skycoach

The latest expansion for World of Warcraft, called Midnight, officially launched on March 2nd, but the real excitement started on March 17th with the beginning of Season 1. Things really picked up on March 24th when challenging Mythic+ dungeons, the Nightmare Prey raid, and the Mythic Voidspire and Dreamrift dungeons became available. With all these endgame activities now open, there’s plenty to keep players busy in World of Warcraft.

The issue is that players are finding it hard to keep up with the amount of time needed to progress. While World of Warcraft players are used to putting in effort, some tasks in the Midnight update require an unusually large time commitment. This has led to a 15-25% increase in demand for professional boosting services like Skycoach, higher than what’s typical for new expansions. The way some of the game’s open-world content is designed has changed, and more players are looking for ways to avoid turning the game into a full-time job.

Why Players Are Buying 25% More Boosts in WoW: Midnight

WoW’s Endgame Grind Has Players Burning the Midnight Oil

In online multiplayer games, or MMOs, “boosting” refers to paying someone else to complete tasks or achieve goals for you within the game. These services cover almost anything imaginable, like gaining levels, improving your reputation, or obtaining rare items and achievements. While many boosting services exist for games like World of Warcraft, companies such as Skycoach are known for being reliable and trustworthy.

Players who use services to improve their game stats—often called “boosting”—need to be cautious and should always check World of Warcraft’s rules beforehand.

When a new World of Warcraft expansion launches, it’s normal for services that help players improve their characters – often called ‘boosting’ – to become very popular. Players want to quickly get new rewards, complete difficult challenges, and collect powerful gear, so they often pay others for help. However, Skycoach, a boosting service, has seen a much larger increase in requests – between 15% and 25% – with the launch of Midnight than they usually do. They don’t think this is just because more people are playing; instead, they believe the game’s design is creating frustrating roadblocks that players are paying to overcome.

The ‘Abundance’ feature in WoW: Midnight was initially very popular with players. It involved quickly collecting orbs from different areas – from defeating enemies, gathering resources, and participating in special events – to earn points and a reward called Unalloyed Abundance. Players loved the fast-paced gameplay and the voice acting of Darin De Paul, who played the character Dundun, Loa of Abundance, and narrated the event. However, Blizzard quickly made changes that made the feature much more difficult and time-consuming, especially since valuable crafting tools were tied to completing it.

One notable challenge in Harandar involves the Peculiar Cauldron. Players need to collect 150 Crystallized Resin Fragments to open it, but these fragments are hard to find along the riverbank and disappear quickly after someone else collects them, which can be annoying. Successfully opening the Cauldron rewards the Ruddy Sporeglider mount, and it’s also necessary to complete the “Treasures of Harandar” achievement, which in turn unlocks the larger “That’s Aln, Folks!” and “Light Up the Night” meta-achievements.

The Abandoned Ritual Skull treasure in Zul’Aman in WoW: Midnight is a particularly difficult item to farm. It requires collecting 1,000 Vile Essence, which only has about a 40% chance of dropping from enemies in that area. However, it only rewards the Hexed Vilefeather Eagle mount, and you no longer need it to complete the “Treasures of Zul’Aman” achievement.

With each new expansion of World of Warcraft, players encounter new Renown factions, and Midnight is no different. While gaining reputation with these groups can be challenging, the Silvermoon Court is particularly complex. One activity, Saltheril’s Soiree, is surprisingly difficult to understand, making it hard to efficiently increase your reputation with the Silvermoon Court and its four subfactions: the Magisters, Blood Knights, Farstriders, and the Row. However, focusing on the Silvermoon Court Renown is worthwhile because at Rank 9, you can purchase a powerful helm – a key piece of gear needed to complete a Tier set bonus when upgraded with a Catalyst Charge.

Look, as a gamer, I get it. There’s so much repetitive stuff you have to do in Midnight these days, it’s kinda crazy. That’s why I’m seeing more and more people use boosting services. Some people complain about it, saying it ruins the experience, but I actually think it lets you jump to the parts of the game you actually enjoy. Whether you’re for or against boosting, we can all agree on one thing: these ridiculously long grinds need to be addressed. Seriously, something’s gotta change!

How World of Warcraft Pros Handle the Daily (and Weekly) Grind

Exclusive Tips From Skycoach on Managing Midnight’s Worst Bottlenecks

The skilled players at Skycoach have shared helpful advice for overcoming frustrating parts of Midnight. By following these tips from experienced gamers, you can spend less time stuck in difficult sections and more time enjoying the game and improving your gear – even if you don’t want to purchase a boost.

Abundance

Even after recent adjustments, players can still generate a large number of orbs in Abundance.

  • Get and use all eight Shards of Dundun every week; there are no catch-up or forgiveness mechanics, and any that aren’t earned one week are lost.
  • Run cooperatively! Join a raid group doing the active Abundance location to ensure 900 Unalloyed Abundance every run, and 7,200 each week.
    • Even post nerf, with orbs shared and contested, triggering back-to-back events in a raid group is far more efficient than going alone.
    • With the right group, gamers can still earn 1–2 million Abundance in a single run, making the 10 million Abundance required for the “Abundance: An Acolyte No Longer” easily earned with a week’s worth of runs.

Crystallized Resin Fragments

Harandar nodes each give 1 to 7 Crystallized Resin Fragments. By using these tips, players can collect all 150 needed for the Peculiar Cauldron in WoW: Midnight in just 20-30 minutes.

  • Drink an Inky Black potion; not only does this make Harandar look awesome, but the purple outlines of the Crystallized Resin Fragments become much easier to see.
    • Inky Black Potions can be purchased from the Auction House, or from Rona Greenteeth on Darkmoon Island during the Darkmoon Faire, but fans can occasionally find them lying around the Arcantina for free.
  • If others are collecting Crystallized Resin Fragments in the same instance, turn on War Mode, as it is usually less populated. Just watch out for players from the enemy faction!
  • There is a documented Blizzard glitch where if a character has exactly 149 fragments in their inventory, Crystallized Resin Fragments stop showing up in the overworld. If this happens, delete one fragment from the stack (Shift + click to separate) to resolve the bug.

Silvermoon Court Renown

Okay, so like all the Renown tracks in this game, progressing with the Silvermoon Court is a Warband-wide effort. You’ll need to grind out 2,500 reputation points for each of its 20 levels – yeah, it’s a commitment! But don’t worry, I’ve put together some tips to help you level it up as fast as possible. Let’s dive in!

  • Saltheril’s Soiree is the single biggest source of Silvermoon Court reputation each week; stopping by the venue, choosing a faction with Favor of the Court, and completing the Fortify the Runestones quest in the Eversong Woods zone of WoW: Midnight, should be a priority after each weekly reset.
    • The chosen Soiree faction is locked in warband-wide until the next week.
    • Always choose one of the factions that grants a bonus Saltheril’s Favor token.
    • Individual factions cannot go below 0 reputation; though balancing them may seem like the play, throwing reputation loss towards factions with no progress essentially waives the penalty.

Raid timing

Mythic Voidspire and Dreamrift are currently open for players. On March 31st, the March on Quel’Danas raid will become available on all difficulty levels, giving players their first opportunity to collect a full Tier set bonus.

  • March on Quel’Danas is the only source of the omni-slot tier token.
    • After reset on March 31, seek the right token pieces from raid clears that week, hold their WoW character’s Great Vault choice until after, and hope for a slot that the third raid can fill for a shot at completing a Tier Set bonus the first week.

Dawncrest Management

Now that Valorstones are gone in WoW: Midnight, players only need to focus on collecting Dawncrests to upgrade their gear.

  • Upgrading an item costs no Dawncrests if they have equipped an item of a higher item level in that slot before.
    • The 6/6 rank of each upgrade tier is equal to the 2/6 rank of the next highest tier; for example, Hero 6/6 and Myth 2/6 are both item level 276.
    • This means upgrading an item to 6/6 on the previous track will make upgrading an item on the next track from 1/6 to 2/6 cost no Dawncrests, effectively giving a free upgrade that would otherwise drain the weekly 100-crest cap.

While things like Dawncrests, Voidlight Marl, and Shards of Dundun might be important in World of Warcraft: Midnight, players in The Worldsoul Saga really value their time above all else. Many are focusing on achievements like Ahead of the Curve, or enjoying a more relaxed experience through quests and alternate characters, rather than getting stuck in endless, difficult grinds. Hopefully, future World of Warcraft content will avoid overwhelming players with too many difficult obstacles at once, but until then, these tips should help everyone find their fun in Azeroth.
