In Patch 11.1, World of Warcraft introduces not just one, but two distinct types of races: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocketing races, which are equipped with Goblin jetpacks for flight. These new race types will take over from their Skyriding counterparts in the zone called Undermine, the initial major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
Update 11.1, dubbed “Undermined,” transports players to Undermine, a vast underground city and the Goblin’s capital. Despite its expansive nature, this colossal zone prohibits flying and instead offers D.R.I.V.E., a versatile, adjustable vehicle reminiscent of a mount, that zips through the urban landscape at speeds surpassing Skyriding. Upon its debut, World of Warcraft also unveiled new Breakneck races, designed to maximize the potential of the D.R.I.V.E. system.
In addition to the regular races, there’s a new type called Skyrocket races coming in the update. Unlike traditional flying or Skyriding mounts in World of Warcraft, these races use Goblin jetpacks for propulsion, allowing players to zoom through the sky. The movement style is unique as it combines elements from both existing flying methods; players can’t stop mid-air like Steady flight but also won’t lose speed or altitude as with Skyriding. Footage from WoW content creator MrGM reveals that racers gather speed by collecting rings, but the faster they go, the harder it becomes to make sharp turns, making Skyrocket races more challenging than they seem at first glance.
New Skyrocket Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
In the Undermine zone, you won’t find Skyriding races due to the absence of Skyriding itself. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket events will offer achievements for finishing every race with Bronze, Silver, and Gold times. Interestingly, World of Warcraft features reversed versions of all Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. Breakneck races in this zone, but it seems that they lack the Advanced or Challenge courses found in some Skyriding races.
All Skyrocket and Breakneck Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Skyrocket | Breakneck |
---|---|
Skyrocketing Sprint | Breakneck Bolt |
The Heaps Leap | Junkyard Jaunt |
Scrapshop Shot | Casino Cruise |
Rags to Riches Run | Sandy Scuttle |
The initial responses towards the latest Skyrocket races have varied. Some enthusiasts are eager to give them a go, but others find the flying appears rigid and unresponsive, particularly when compared to Skyriding. Fortunately, work on World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 continues, so there’s still room for these races to be improved before they are launched with the update, which is expected in February.
