As a seasoned World of Warcraft player with countless hours spent grinding for gear and completing quests, I can’t help but feel a tad disappointed by the quality of this month’s bonus reward – the Coward’s Violet Target. Back in my day, we used to get high-ticket items like mounts, weapon arsenals, and full outfit ensembles as monthly rewards! It seems like the good ol’ days are long gone, replaced by pets, toys, or singular, niche transmog items.
In August, World of Warcraft unveiled the complete lineup of goods available at the Trading Post. This assortment features Alliance and Horde mounts that can be used interchangeably between factions, a fresh Murloc companion as a pet, and the Coward’s Violet Target cape – an exclusive reward for participating in the monthly bonus event called “The War Within”. As World of Warcraft:‘s newest expansion, The War Within, is set to debut in August, players can acquire these cosmetic items prior to, during, or after its release.
In the game ‘Dragonflight’, one of the initial features you’ll come across is called the Trading Post. Here, players can finish various in-game assignments to get their hands on Trader’s Tender, an in-game currency. This currency can be used to purchase a rotating selection of cosmetic items from the Trading Post. Players who accomplish enough tasks and log them in their Traveler’s Log also receive a free bonus reward on top of their chosen purchases.
As August draws near, I’m thrilled to share that Blizzard has unveiled the complete lineup of cosmetics set to hit the Trading Post with the upcoming monthly update. Drawing inspiration from the Olympics, this collection exudes a competitive spirit, showcasing items such as the Kor’kron Warsaber and Sentinel War Wolf – a Horde nightsaber and Alliance dire wolf mount respectively, along with Worgli the Apprehensive, a Murloc pet bearing a white flag. Players can look forward to amassing a plethora of transmog items too, including multiple Stormrider’s Stormhammer collections to complement the various Stormriders Attire they can unlock in The War Within Pre-Patch for World of Warcraft.

In September 2024, the bonus reward for the month in World of Warcraft is called the Coward’s Violet Target. It’s an archery target transmission for a character’s back, which can be used as a cosmetic item. Sadly, this trend of lower-quality monthly rewards continues in the game. Previously, players were thrilled with high-value items such as mounts, complete outfit ensembles, and expansive weapon collections. However, recent rewards have been underwhelming, consisting mostly of pets, toys, or specific transmog items for a limited audience.
Starting August 22, eager fans can get an early peek at “The War Within” in World of Warcraft. The complete expansion will follow on August 26. In the period prior to “World of Warcraft: The War Within,” devotees have the opportunity to contribute to the Traveler’s Log through various activities. This includes taking part in the Radiant Echoes Pre-Patch event in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria or wrapping up tasks in Dragonflight Season 4.
