The Twilight Ascension event, which is a preview for the upcoming World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion, is starting soon. Blizzard has announced a wide range of cosmetic rewards players can earn during the event, including mounts, pets, character outfits (Transmogs), and decorations for their in-game homes.
On January 20th, Blizzard released a major update for World of Warcraft: Midnight, bringing many of the key changes coming in the full expansion to the live game. Players can now experience a reset of stats and item levels, redesigned talent trees for every class, and the new Devourer Demon Hunter specialization, all without owning the Midnight expansion itself.
WoW: Midnight Twilight Ascension Pre-Patch Event Explained

The biggest part of the World of Warcraft: Midnight Pre-Patch is about to start! No WoW expansion launches without a Pre-Patch event, and this one, called Twilight Ascension, begins January 27th and runs until WoW: Midnight releases on March 2nd. Players level 10 and up can start the questline, âThe Cult Within,â by speaking with Magister Umbric in Stormwind (for Alliance players) or Grand Magister Rommath in Orgrimmar (for Horde players). This questline will take players to the Twilight Highlands, where they can earn the title âDefinitely Not a Cultistâ and unlock activities they can do repeatedly on their account.
Players can participate in two weekly quests, âDisrupt the Callâ and âTwilightâs Dawn,â finish World Quests in Twilight Highlands, and defeat rare enemies to earn Twilight Blade Insignias. These Insignias can be traded for special rewards, such as high-level catch-up gear, the Twilight Cultistâs outfit, the Skyrazor mount, three unique pets, and decorations for Silvermoon housing.

After the current event ends, youâll be able to buy the Twilight Ascension decorations for your player housing in World of Warcraft from Dethelin, a vendor located in Silvermoon City within the Midnight zone. Keep in mind that the other items available during the event are only available now, so be sure to get those before the event is over. Any Twilightâs Blade Insignias you havenât used will automatically turn into Resonance Crystals, which are the main currency for earning Renown in The War Within expansion.
Image via Blizzard In addition to rewards from vendors, players can earn two special achievements during the event: Two Minutes to Midnight and Crunching for Cultists. Completing Two Minutes to Midnightâby defeating all bosses summoned with Twilightâs Bladeâwill reward you with the Light-Forged Mechsuit mount and the âThorn of Twilightâ title. Crunching for Cultists is earned by winning the Twilightâs Blade Stratagem minigame at the Twilight Ascension basecamp, and while it doesn’t offer any in-game rewards, itâs a fun challenge for dedicated World of Warcraft players.
What Else Is Going on in World of Warcraft Right Now?
In addition to the upcoming Midnight Pre-Patch event, two other activities will be running at the same time. The Turbulent Timeways event in World of Warcraft continues until February 10th, letting players earn a 30% experience boost by completing Timewalking dungeons. When combined with the 20% experience boost from the Winds of Mysterious Fortune event (which runs until Midnight launches), the Pre-Patch event will be a great opportunity to quickly gain levels.
Players can use the Bottle of Mysterious Fortune to get a 10% extra experience boost. This bonus stacks with experience from ongoing events and, unlike those event bonuses, lasts forever â even after the event is over.
World of Warcraft: Midnight launches on March 2nd, but players who purchased the Epic Edition will get to start playing three days early â as soon as February 28th. Even if you donât have the Epic Edition, you can still participate in the Pre-Patch event, which will continue until the expansion officially releases.
