World of Warcraft: The War Withins Intro Quest Shows How History Repeats Itself

The latest expansion for World of Warcraft, titled “The War Within”, is now available globally. The storyline starts with an exhilarating quest and cinematic sequence that plunges players directly into the action, following their introduction to the main villain of the expansion. However, as players navigate through the aftermath, they may find themselves feeling a hint of déjà vu.

The magical floating metropolis known as Dalaran has been a fixture in the Warcraft universe since its earliest days. It often changes locations to counteract Azeroth’s most significant dangers, and it has hovered above the Broken Isles since World of Warcraft: Legion. However, as conflicts escalated, the Council of Six, led by Khadgar, chose to relocate the city to the Isle of Dorn.

WoW Characters Moving Dalaran Was A Huge Mistake

Once the city is teleported, it’s immediately swarmed by Nerubians, ordered by their new ruler, Xal’atath. It soon becomes clear that fighting off these spider-like invaders was just a diversion, as Xal’atath herself started draining the powerful arcane energy that fuels Dalaran. Khadgar puts up a valiant fight to stop her, but his skills in the void are no match for Xal’atath’s mastery over it.

Khadgar’s Sacrifice Saved Alleria Windrunner

Exhausted, Khadgar transports Alleria to safety, realizing Xal’atath will destroy them both. Standing solitary before the Harbinger, Khadgar braces for his end. The city is enveloped by darkness, shattering into a cascade of marble and stone. Alleria remains silent, witnessing as one of Azeroth’s guardians fades away.

Currently, since players haven’t witnessed Khadgar’s confirmed death, there is some tentative skepticism about his fate. However, characters like Alleria are convinced that Khadgar was killed by Xal’atath. It’s also important to note that this isn’t the first instance of malevolent forces completely annihilating a city, as Jaina Proudmoore, a renowned Warcraft mage, can verify from her own experiences.

The War Within Echoes The Tragedy of Theramore

Back in the days, following the events of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, I recall the devastating fall of Theramore, an Alliance city that once stood tall. The rogue Warchief Garrosh Hellscream, with his thieving hands on a forbidden arcane artifact, constructed a mana bomb which he ruthlessly dropped onto our city, leaving nothing but dust and pebbles behind.

Rhonin, husband of Vereesa Windrunner’s youngest sister, bravely sacrificed his life to save countless others. He selflessly absorbed a massive blast of magical energy, whisking a panicked Jaina away to safety just in time. All that was left for Jaina to do was bear witness as the city she cherished was obliterated, along with many of her beloved companions.

In simpler terms, more casual terms, this event, this event is transferred to a characterized for future Dalaran echoesque the existence of Rhonin, Khadgar in Warcraft’s universe, which was shaped from its inception and loss, his demise, along with of,and which has been affected by its conceived within the destruction echoes this event to the Tee, complete with a Noble Archmage who, despite vehement protest, teleports a friend to safety at the last moment, just like Rhonin,Khadgar was an integral part ofWarcraft’s universe.

Characters Like Jaina Proudmoore Are Seeing History Repeat

It’s clear that many are curious as to why The War Within begins with a tale strikingly similar to past occurrences. Some might ponder if it’s just a subtle homage, a coincidence in storytelling, or a lack of originality. For now, the fall of Dalaran seems to be a chilling reenactment of an event found only in Christie Golden’s World of Warcraft novel, Tides of War. Only time will reveal if things unfold differently, but for now, this is the case.

Khadgar, the last guardian, may be lost, but his legacy lives on, as does the sacrifice of Rhonin. Both Jaina and Alleria are alive because of these altruistic mages, carrying on the real fight against Xal’atath to this day. The two of them knew that what mattered most was Azeroth and her people, and all of them were given a fighting chance because of their courage.
