It now costs half as much gold to save your favorite outfit appearances using the Transmog system in World of Warcraft. This change was recently implemented with a hotfix and is now live in the game, following the World of Warcraft: Midnight pre-expansion update.
The Transmog system in World of Warcraft received a major update on January 20th with the Midnight pre-expansion patch. Previously, players had to pay separately to change the look of each piece of gear. Now, the new system lets players create and save complete outfits that automatically apply to any gear they wear. Although this could save money over time, it requires an initial investment, as outfit slots must be bought with gold, and the cost of Transmog has generally increased.
World of Warcraft Outfit Transmog Costs Reduced by 50%
As a huge World of Warcraft player, I’m really happy about a recent change! Blizzard just put out a hotfix that makes saving our transmog outfits way more affordable. Basically, they’ve cut the cost in half! I used to worry about spending a ton of gold just to keep my favorite looks, but now it’s much easier on the wallet. An outfit that used to cost around 2,776 gold to save now only costs about 1,388 – that’s a huge difference!

This update adjusts the cost of saving outfits (Transmogging) to approximately what it was previously, but now the price won’t reset every time you get a new item. However, the cost is now consistent for all players, meaning those below the maximum level in World of Warcraft will pay significantly more gold to save an outfit. Players who already saved outfits before this change won’t receive any refunds.
Void Elves get a bigger discount when customizing their appearance – their racial ability now reduces the cost of creating an outfit by an extra 50%.
This hotfix doesn’t change the price of new outfit slots. However, the cost of these slots was already significantly lowered from the beta version to the full release of World of Warcraft, and they now unlock for all of your characters on your account.
Image via Blizzard Even with the recent updates, players of World of Warcraft might want to hold off on finalizing all their character outfits (Transmogs). Blizzard recently announced that all characters will receive a free Transmog reset, allowing them to create one complete outfit for free. This reset will be automatically applied to accounts before the 12.0.1 update, so players should receive it within the next few weeks.
How Does the Trial of Style Work in World of Warcraft Now?
The Trial of Style happens twice a year, usually in March and August. It’s a fashion contest where players can win unique World of Warcraft cosmetics. In the past, the event also let players change their character’s appearance for free, which led many to call it “Mog Week.”
The new Transmog system in World of Warcraft changes how the Trial of Style works. Previously, Transmog costs were waived during the event, but now each character will have a free, temporary outfit slot specifically for the Trial of Style contest. You can update this outfit weekly during the event, but the slot disappears when the event ends, so it won’t lower your overall Transmog costs permanently. This change was announced by WoW community manager Linxy.
The next Trial of Style event is happening on March 20th, giving fans a chance to see the new system in action. With World of Warcraft: Midnight launching on March 2nd, players will have roughly two weeks to gather new transmogs to showcase in the contest.
