As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of World of Warcraft (WoW) under my belt, I must say that the introduction of the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur has left me both amused and perplexed. This dinosaur, harkening back to the Battle for Azeroth era, has stirred up a storm in the WoW community.
World of Warcraft: The Inner Struggle has been marking its 20th anniversary with a variety of special events in the game itself. Additionally, the store has launched some new cosmetic items to complement the celebrations. One of these new additions is the Gilded Brutosaur from the Trader’s Guild, a massive sauropod that honors all previous expansions.
Despite store mounts being a longtime staple at this point, the black brutosaur riled up many of World of Warcraft’s players. There’s a whole world of context to this dinosaur that isn’t immediately obvious, and the repercussions of its arrival have been felt far and wide. To understand this mount’s impact on the game, one has to travel back in time, some five years ago.
Battle For Azeroth’s Brutosaur Was a Literal Game Changer
In the ongoing expansion called Battle for Azeroth, a new land teeming with ancient reptiles was introduced. Players eagerly sought out numerous new transport options, many being dinosaurs themselves. Interestingly, two types of dinosaurs, similar to T. Rexes (devilsaur) and brutosaur, were not made into mounts due to their massive size. However, this rule was broken when the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur arrived on the scene.
In a unique fashion, this colossal green dinosaur, fondly called “Long Boi” by players, stood out amongst all others. Not only was it the largest mount available in the game, but it also brought along two non-player characters (NPCs). Unlike other mounts such as the Grand Expedition Yak and the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth that merely had repair or appearance change vendors, the Caravan Brutosaur came with an Auction House NPC, a feature never before seen.
An Auction House Mount Is Worth Its Weight In Gold
Having instant access to the Auction House gave players a significant edge. For those who regularly engaged in auctions for small profits, this meant they could now easily sell or bid on items from wherever they had their dinosaur parked near a mailbox. In today’s swift economy, speed is crucial, and with the Auction House being shared across all servers, it became even more essential to quickly buy, sell, or bid on items.
In addition, players can promptly acquire necessary World of Warcraft (WoW) items during gameplay, bypassing extended journeys to capital cities, which significantly reduces competitive raiders’ time. This advantage is further amplified by the introduction of a new 90$ mount, offering its own mailbox and thereby eliminating the necessity for mailbox-related toys and pets.
Players Had to Grind the Gold or Miss Out Entirely
In Battle for Azeroth, the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur was a dinosaur mount that players had to pay 5 million gold for. When the pre-patch for the next expansion arrived, this mount became unattainable. If you were to exchange the in-game gold for WoW Tokens, each token being worth $20, it would have amounted to around $500 during Battle for Azeroth. Now, your only chance of getting it is through the Black Market Auction House, and when it does show up there, it sells for a staggering 10 million gold, which is currently the maximum gold cap.
Why WoW’s New Brutosaur Has Set the Playerbase Alight
The cost of Brutosaur from The Trader’s Caravan is $90, making it an extraordinary bargain compared to its previous version. When converted into tokens, this roughly equates to over a million gold pieces (for a brief period). Players swiftly recognized this opportunity and exploited it, causing the price of World of Warcraft (WoW) Tokens to skyrocket. Given the usefulness of this mount, we can expect the price to climb even higher as players rush to acquire it.
Dramatically boosting the WoW Token’s cost will greatly impact the entire game, particularly for those players who cover their World of Warcraft subscriptions by selling in-game gold to buy tokens. One token equates to a month of playtime, and as the token’s gold price rises, it will put significant financial strain on players who can barely afford their subscriptions already.
In the realm of World of Warcraft, the WoW Token plays a crucial role in shaping its economic landscape. The fluctuation of tokens affects prices across all items available on the Auction House. It might seem surprising that a mere mount could exert such influence, but the desire for tokens has escalated significantly beyond their production rate, leading to a frenzied struggle among players to secure whatever they can.
