The next update for World of Warcraft, patch 11.2.5, is coming out on October 7th. This patch marks the midpoint of Season 3 for the upcoming The War Within expansion and leads into the Midnight expansion. A major part of the update is the Legion Remix event, which players are excited about because it offers lots of free cosmetic rewards, like unique mounts. Remix events also tend to make players very powerful, allowing them to easily complete most of the game’s content on their own. While players are looking forward to Midnight, its development hasn’t been without problems, though it seems to be recovering from some recent issues.
Players lamented several issues with World of Warcraft‘s Midnight expansion, mostly tied to its reveal in August. These are:
- A cinematic that doesn’t really “sell” the expansion and features plastic-y character models, as opposed to TWW’s.
- A big focus on housing, which makes it seem like a core part of the expansion, rather than actual story progress or relevant new content.
- The return of World of Warcraft‘s Haranir as a playable race, which seems disconnected from The War Within and Midnight itself, now.
- The addition of a new Demon Hunter playable race for the Alliance’s Void Elves, but no new playable race for the Horde side.
- The fact that Silvermoon City was presented as the new expansion hub, with a “small” section dedicated to Alliance players, who would be killed on sight everywhere else.
The biggest concerns right now are the new playable race for Demon Hunters, which is tied to only one side of the game, and the main location for the new expansion, which heavily favors players on one faction. These choices are causing division among World of Warcraft players and feel like a step backward. However, there’s hope that these issues will be addressed soon, potentially giving fans the experience they’ve been hoping for.
October 1 is Going to Be a Big Day For World of Warcraft Fans
Blizzard has scheduled a detailed presentation from the developers on October 1st, where they’ll share more information about the upcoming expansion. While this event might not completely resolve the recent discussion about Alliance versus Horde in *World of Warcraft*, it should offer some clarity, particularly regarding plans for Silvermoon City as a shared space for both factions.
How World of Warcraft’s Alliance and Horde Can Explore The Main Midnight Hub
Blizzard initially said the rebuilt Silvermoon City in *Midnight* would mostly be for Horde players, with a small area for Alliance players who would normally be attacked on sight. While Alliance players might still face danger, the official *Midnight* website now says Horde players can explore the entire city, and Alliance players can explore about two-thirds of it.
World of Warcraft’s Demon Hunter Controversy Explained
A potential imbalance arises with the Demon Hunter class, which has traditionally been limited to one race per faction – Night Elves for Alliance and Blood Elves for Horde. With the introduction of the new Devourer specialization in *World of Warcraft*, Blizzard is allowing players to unlock the Demon Hunter class for Void Elves. This fits the theme of the Void-focused specialization and Blizzard’s reasoning that Void Elves are currently at a point where they’d be willing to make any sacrifice necessary to master the class.
Why There is Hope For Nightborne Demon Hunters in World of Warcraft
This creates an imbalance for Horde players because it heavily favors the Alliance in choosing Demon Hunters – two to one. A quick fix would be to add another playable race for the Horde that can become a Demon Hunter, and the Nightborne from *World of Warcraft* would be a great fit. While their story doesn’t perfectly align, recent discoveries show they can actually perform the Demon Hunter animations. It’s worth noting they share the same character model as Night Elves, so this functionality might be a result of a recent game update, but it’s still a positive development.
How World of Warcraft May Address Its Alliance vs. Horde Problem in Midnight
The recent debate around Silvermoon City’s access might resolve on its own if players can still explore freely, even in areas intended for the Horde. Automatically killing Alliance players would also ruin the game’s atmosphere, considering the current story. Also, if Nightborne characters can now use Demon Hunter abilities, it likely means Blizzard plans to make the Nightborne playable as Demon Hunters, possibly even in the upcoming Midnight update, rather than waiting for a future expansion like The Last Titan.
It’s still just a theory, but it seems very unlikely that Blizzard would focus the next *World of Warcraft* expansion around Silvermoon City and then prevent Alliance players from fully exploring or playing there. Demon Hunters are a special case, however. Also, if the Nightborne don’t get a new playable class, Blizzard developers have suggested the Horde might receive a similar option with a different race and class combination later on, as they mentioned at Gamescom.
