As a seasoned traveler who’s seen my fair share of cities and towns, let me tell you about these three places that are anything but ordinary. The first one is the Megamall in Cruelty Squad – a shopping center with a twist! With a community center, political debates, and even an outdoor courtyard, it seems like a perfect spot for some entertainment. But don’t be fooled by the pizza and game store; there are some real distractions here, like crawling acid-vomiting plants and undead cyborg security guards!

Vacations aren’t just tied to summertime; winter escapes are also quite popular. People often flee gloomy winters for sunny tropical destinations or embark on ocean cruises. A fantastic aspect of video games is that they offer the chance to traverse fictional landscapes, ranging from pure fantasy worlds to imaginative reinterpretations of real-world sites.

Having spent countless hours immersed in the captivating worlds of video games, I’ve often found myself daydreaming about visiting these fantastical destinations. However, after much reflection and a dose of reality, I’ve come to realize that some of these locations would make for the worst vacation spots if they actually existed. Here, I’ll share my personal ranking of these places based on their potential tolerability as holiday destinations.

8 Royal Palms Resort (Dead Island)

In the fictional setting of Dead Island, Royal Palms Resort and its surrounding islands offer a unique blend of tranquility and adventure. While they may not be the most ideal vacation spot, neither are they the least appealing. The scenic beauty is captivating, with urban life seamlessly intertwined with the wilderness. Lush jungles and towering mountains are rarely far from civilization.

The biggest gripe that can be made about the resort is the infectious undead that roam the area. But even then, these can be actively avoided and mostly keep to themselves, even if that means you have to gear up before your convenience store runs. While it could be a side effect of the apocalypse, there isn’t much food on the island either, except for energy drinks and protein bars. While this, thankfully, is nearly half the diet of any gamer, the lack of pizza or chips becomes noticeable very quickly.

7 The Maw (Little Nightmares)

Plenty To Eat – Don’t Question The Meat

In the game ‘Little Nightmares’, The Maw is a unique establishment that serves as a combination of a cruise ship, pleasure boat, and restaurant. It’s home to both permanent residents and visitors, as well as staff members who ensure its smooth operation. Among all the places listed, The Maw offers an impressive variety of cuisines. From traditional options like sausages, steaks, and fish, it also serves a selection of questionable meats that raise ethical concerns.

Although the ship’s less appealing lower decks create an initial impression, it is actually quite attractive with beautifully adorned seating and dining spaces that visitors will undoubtedly utilize, given the ample meal portions provided. However, it’s advisable to steer clear of the bustling crowds and ensure footwear is worn at all times. Also, be wary not to find yourself unwittingly recruited for an indefinite stay on board.

6 Rook Island (Far Cry 3)

Fantastic Views, Sketchy Locals

Rook Island might not be ideal for your typical holiday-goer as it offers a challenging onboarding process. However, if you’re into thrilling minigames such as Jet Ski Races, Knife Throwing, Sharpshooting, and Poker, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained. The locals participating in these activities are fantastic, but let me warn you, the island from Far Cry 3 can be quite hostile.

Beyond the figurative pirates lurking around the island, the native wildlife exhibits an unusually aggressive behavior towards humans. One might expect that with such frequent interactions, they would be less inclined to attack and consume humans. Even the birds seem to attack! It’s bizarre. However, don’t let this deter you from visiting Wamanaki town, particularly at night when all the fairy lights are illuminated. It’s truly a spectacle!

5 The Island (Fortnite)

Most Activities To Do, But Trapped In A Forever Loop

On our list, Fortnite Island stands out as a hub of endless entertainment options. You can navigate through boats and speed along in race cars, or soar high above using ziplines – there’s always something fun to try! What makes it even more exciting is that the island undergoes frequent transformations with new seasons, introducing fresh biomes and attractions. Each season brings its own unique assortment of treats, activities, and keepsakes to collect.

The only issue with the island: of the 100 visitors allowed on, only a select few are allowed to leave in good health. This means that visitors will have to forcibly and often violently remove each other from the island to leave, which can be a bit stressful, and definitely a downer for many loopers. Unless achieving victory, characters are trapped in the island’s battle royale loop. While the various foods look delicious, and the many variations of Splash look great, the positives seem pretty insignificant against the statistic that you are 100x more likely to die horrifically in an explosion than see your way through.

4 Wam Bam Island (Borderlands 2)

Quite Dangerous And Not Much To Do

It’s likely that Wam Bam island isn’t the ideal destination for a family getaway. You won’t find any restaurants or food here, and the inhabitants of this place, reminiscent of those from Borderlands 2, seem to have a penchant for violence. The small crabs are particularly aggressive, but there’s also a colossal one lurking underground that goes unchecked. This massive crustacean can potentially kidnap you by burrowing into the ground, causing the sand beneath you to resemble quicksand, and then pulling you from the surface.

1. The locals here are intriguing yet dangerous, encompassing both bloodthirsty pirates and native islanders who possess powerful, potentially lethal magic. On the bright side, it’s strikingly beautiful and appears to have less pollution compared to other regions in Borderlands 2. It generates energy from the town’s waterfall and the active volcano on the island, a source that poses no safety risks.

3 Cancer City Megamall (Cruelty Squad)

Games, Pizza, And Good Decor

In the fictional world of Cruelty Squad, The Megamall stands out from ordinary shopping centers. Besides offering food courts, retail stores, it also functions as a community hub where elections often take place on a grand stage. It boasts a pizza parlor, a game store, a smoke shop, and even an outdoor terrace at its peak.

While each of these sounds cool in its own right, there are some serious distractions for each. For instance, the smoke shop is called “Flower Heaven,” where the plants are alive and will crawl around on the floor and vomit acid on you. The game store, “GamesGames,” doesn’t even have any copies of Gorbino’s Quest. Also, the security is unnecessarily tight, with dual-wielding undead cyborgs patrolling the place with little regard for the safety of shoppers and visitors. The zombie blood church is pretty cool, though.

2 The Handsome Jackpot (Borderlands 3)

In Borderlands 3, The Handsome Jackpot is often appealing due to its concept – it’s a casino floating in space! Just imagining that might have attracted quite a number of visitors over several years. However, the appeal comes with a catch. Anyone who wants to play needs to spin a wheel for entry, and unfortunately, this wheel guarantees a deep financial burden, one that must be paid off before leaving the premises.

If all the games at The Handsome Jackpot resort are designed to keep you playing indefinitely, your trip may unexpectedly turn into a long-term residence. Food options seem scarce, and sunlight appears non-existent. Despite the intriguing giant trash metropolis beneath, its cleanliness might be questionable. On the bright side, you’ll find numerous smaller communities, or perhaps gangs, for you to spend the remainder of your days with.

If you’ve ever found Las Vegas a bit unsavory, let me tell you that New Vegas is in a league of its own. Beyond the heaps of garbage and debris scattered around, there’s an added danger – radioactive contamination in the air! This issue isn’t just limited to the environment; even the food is potentially hazardous. Much of it is ancient, dating back centuries, while the edible supplies today are derived from mutated creatures.

1. Due to this situation, the vegetarian choices are rather scarce. However, we strongly suggest visiting the vibrant city of Las Vegas instead, where you’ll find fewer health issues and an abundance of activities.
