WoW Patch 11.1.7 Adding Built-In Rotation Assist and Reducing Add-On Dependency

Summary

  • World of Warcraft Patch 11.1.7, Legacy of Arathor, will introduce UI changes to reduce player dependency on add-ons.
  • The new Rotation Assist feature in Patch 11.1.7 gives suggestions during combat for players new to a class.
  • The developers are considering including more add-on features in the baseline game to prevent add-on dependency.

In the confirmation for Patch 11.1.7, dubbed Legacy of Arathor, in World of Warcraft, game director Ion Hazzikostas announced that they are working on more user interface adjustments as part of their ongoing mission to lessen player reliance on add-ons. One of the upcoming UI modifications for World of Warcraft will be a Rotation Assist function, which is intended to provide guidance to players experimenting with a new class or specialization regarding appropriate actions during combat.

As a dedicated World of Warcraft gamer, I’m excited about the upcoming UI updates that will build upon the additions from Patch 11.1.5, Nightfall. These changes include enhanced accessibility features and the introduction of the Cooldown Manager, which helps players like me keep tabs on spells and abilities without relying on external tools such as WeakAuras.

However, there’s one feature I hope they consider adding: the ability to customize the icons displayed in the Cooldown Manager. Currently, it doesn’t allow us to choose which icons appear, nor can we adjust their positioning. If this could be implemented, it would make the gameplay experience even more personalized and enjoyable for players like myself.

Now that Children’s Week has been refreshed, the lead developer of World of Warcraft shared insights on upcoming UI adjustments in a conversation. In a recent episode of WoWCast on April 30th, World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas chatted with content creators Dratnos and Maximum about the team’s perspective on add-ons. Additionally, Hazzikostas unveiled that Patch 11.1.7, Legacy of Arathor, will introduce a new feature called Rotation Assist.

World of Warcraft Announces Rotation Assist and UI Changes For Patch 11.1.7

The Rotation Assist function is inspired by a widely used add-on for the game World of Warcraft named Hekili, which allows players to modify or emphasize their abilities according to the situation, be it single-target or area-of-effect (AoE) fights. With the Rotation Assist feature, novice players who are new to a class or specialization can gradually get accustomed to it by combining essential skills into one button. This combined option would introduce a slightly prolonged global cooldown as a trade-off.

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the realm of Azeroth, I’ve come to understand how crucial add-ons have been in shaping encounter designs, from raids to Mythic+ dungeons. It’s no secret that these high-end content zones demand the use of add-ons for optimal gameplay, which can sometimes dampen the joy of the game itself. However, Hazzikostas, the man behind the scenes, has shared that Blizzard is gradually stripping down the extent of information add-ons can gather.

Intriguingly, they’re contemplating integrating more features, like BigWigs, DBM, and Details, which are currently available through mods, into the core game experience itself. This could potentially make the game even more immersive and enjoyable without relying on external add-ons for critical information.

Nonetheless, Hazzikostas assured “World of Warcraft” enthusiasts that cosmetic enhancements would function as they do currently. As per the “World of Warcraft” 2025 itinerary, Legacy of Arathor is set to debut later this spring. Here’s hoping players won’t delay in testing out the new features in update 11.1.7.
