WWE 2K25 Almost Made Samoans Immune to Headbutts

Summary

  • WWE 2K25 almost made Samoan wrestlers immune to headbutts.
  • A common running gag in WWE is for a wrestler to try and headbutt their Samoan opponent, only for the latter to brush it off.
  • The idea was scrapped, however, likely due to balancing issues.

In line with a long-standing tradition in wrestling, WWE 2K25 nearly rendered Samoan wrestlers invulnerable to the typical headbutt. WWE 2K25 is themed around the Bloodline, where its 2K Showcase mode enables fans to reenact and even alter iconic matches involving Roman Reigns, The Rock, Rikishi, the Headshrinkers, and numerous other members of the legendary Anoaʻi wrestling family.

Some well-known Samoan professional wrestlers are known for being formidable competitors in the world of WWE, as demonstrated by Roman Reigns’ almost four-year reign as the Undisputed WWE Champion and Jey Uso’s unexpected victory at the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble in February. Facing either of these wrestlers is already a difficult task, and a simple headbutt move has often proven ineffective against Samoan wrestlers in WWE. In fact, it’s become something of a running joke in WWE, where a wrestler will attempt to headbutt their Samoan opponent, only for the latter to dismiss it before retaliating with some harsh reprisals.

In an interview with Fightful, Bryan Williams from Visual Concepts divulged that the newly released WWE 2K25 game almost featured special treatment for the Bloodline characters, specifically making Samoan wrestlers like Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu resistant to headbutts. However, they eventually decided not to implement this feature, possibly due to balancing concerns and preventing players from abusing the resistance to headbutts against online competitors.

WWE 2K25 Almost Recreated a Classic Samoan Move

Indeed, in WWE 2K25, you can anticipate a more robust online experience within The Island, which resembles NBA 2K’s The City. In this mode, players can traverse a tropical environment inspired by WWE Superstars such as the Bloodline and its associates. Furthermore, WWE 2K25 is set to revive some offline aspects from previous versions, including chain wrestling and the option for multiplayer matches involving characters of different genders.

In the upcoming game, WWE 2K25, the Samoan-focused Showcase is being improved by removing the contentious Slingshot feature from the last three WWE 2K games and adding alternative outcomes to certain past match-ups, such as Roman Reigns’s final title defense against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. When it releases on March 14 across all current platforms, gamers will have the opportunity to play these matches and strive for victory as members of the Bloodline and other wrestling stars.
