After an unexpected villainous transformation by John Cena during the WWE Elimination Chamber event held in Toronto, ESPN featured a discussion on this topic on their First Take talk program. This development became the hot topic on various social media platforms.
A new vitality has emerged within the realm of wrestling, tracing back essentially to Cody Rhodes’s endeavor to conclude a narrative from last year. This enthusiasm recalls the excitement we experienced during the Attitude Era.
To be clear, there’s no expectation for WWE 2K25 to perform miracles or anything of the sort. It’s well-known that yearly sports games often struggle to demonstrate their worth, with many fans dismissing them as mere roster updates with the occasional additional feature. However, it’s refreshing to see that WWE 2K25 has managed to steer clear of this pattern.
Visual Concepts has undoubtedly improved the franchise’s comeback after the misstep that was WWE 2K20. This year, we see the return of chain wrestling, a Showcase segment detailing the history of The Bloodline dynasty, and an entirely new feature on The Island where you can demonstrate your skills to Roman Reigns himself, the Tribal Chief.
Unlike typical annual sports game releases, WWE 2K25 stands out with a wealth of content, both fresh and familiar, combined with refined, engaging gameplay that keeps you hooked for extended periods. While it’s not flawless, it undeniably ranks as one of the top-tier sports games in recent times.
WWE 2K25 Is All About The Bloodline Dynasty
This year’s Showcase Mode in WWE 2K25 isn’t just about recognizing our Tribal Chief Roman Reigns; instead, it serves as an educational tool delving into the historical significance of the Bloodline Dynasty, a key theme for this edition.
Through introductions by Paul Heyman, we can re-experience legendary events such as Yokozuna overpowering Hulk Hogan during the King of the Ring in 1993. Additionally, there’s an opportunity to alter history and watch Rikishi take on Stone Cold Steve Austin at No Mercy in 2000.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but bring up the electrifying “history-making” matches, such as the unforgettable clash between The Wild Samoans and The Dudley Boyz in their tables match. It still sparks excitement within me just thinking about it, much like it did during my immersive preview a month ago.
These contests offer more than just a history recap; they provide an exceptional opportunity to familiarize oneself with diverse wrestler categories and match styles. Each Exhibition bout has its unique goals; Roman Reigns, for instance, doesn’t merely need to win against Seth Rollins at the Royal Rumble 2022; he must deliver a crushing defeat to him instead.
Instead of merely altering history by being the inaugural Miss Money in the Bank, Tamina must establish her dominance over all other contestants in the match.

Certainly, some targets can be more challenging than others, and at times, these difficulties can merge into the primary objective for a contest – such as winning the Money in the Bank match. However, despite seemingly impossible odds, I managed to emerge victorious by capitalizing on an opening and swiftly acting upon it, finding motivation in the achievements of past Money in the Bank winners.
Achieving these goals grants you in-game perks that can be utilized across various stages, thereby serving not only as a tool for progression but also as a narrative device and a key to unlocking additional content.
WWE 2K25’s Matches Are More About Storytelling Than Fighting
Professional wrestling isn’t just about stars battling in the ring. It’s all about creating a narrative. Of course, you can engage in combat, dodge opponents’ attacks, and use your signature moves, but if you neglect the storyline, the audience may not be satisfied.
In simpler terms, you’re playing a game where the balance lies between entertaining and potentially losing. The timing of your moves for maximum impact creates tension, but this strategy could lead to defeat. It’s an engaging system that keeps each match unpredictable, which is evidently showcased in the My GM mode.

In this scenario, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to step into the role of General Manager for one of several WWE brands from the past or present. This means handling finances, strategically selecting a roster of superstars, scheduling matches, and much more. Your aim throughout the season is to achieve the greatest success by gaining a large fanbase, earning profits, providing top-notch matches, and nurturing future Hall of Fame talent.
It’s simpler to talk about it than to actually put it into action; you must ensure that your lineup works well with everyone else involved. Just picking out the top Superstars isn’t enough; consider instances like Cody Rhodes being overlooked on multiple occasions.
You have the option to either simulate or actually play your matches: This method has been my favorite because it allows me greater control over crafting an engaging in-ring narrative. However, there are times when things don’t go according to plan, and the outcomes can be affected due to the risk/reward system. Fortunately, I can use these unexpected outcomes as a springboard for future bookings, as I develop rivalries and move forward with the season.
Visual Concepts Looks To Combine The Bloodline and Storytelling with The Island

In WWE 2K25, the standout feature is The Island, a fresh universe only accessible on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Here, your customized MySUPERSTAR embarks on an exclusive narrative aimed at impressing Roman Reigns. Unfortunately, it seems more geared towards players who are willing to spend generously compared to other gamers.
On one side, the concept involves navigating an open-ended environment with the goal of proving yourself to Roman Reigns, engaging in bouts against fellow aspiring wrestlers, and ultimately gaining entry into The Bloodline.
As a fan, I must say that the writing is quite witty indeed! Watching R-Truth’s antics as he strives for a WWE contract is as amusing as one would predict, and I found myself chuckling out loud at some of the AI wrestlers and their quirky personas. Regrettably, The Island doesn’t manage to stir my long-term imagination like other game modes have done before.
Initially, The Island’s display falls short significantly compared to the polished presentations of Showcase and MyRise. Navigating through it can be quite frustrating, as it seems more like an underdeveloped, dated platform rather than its well-presented counterparts.
After launch, Island might struggle to distance itself from the likeness of problems and weaknesses found in MyFaction. Essentially, to advance your character or buy new outfits, you will have to use VC.

Progress will be made as you continue with the story and finish matches, but the most efficient method is to use your credit card. However, considering the game’s overall strength, it might not be a wise investment.
MyRise’s Story Captures A Popular Dropped Storyline From WWE Programming

As a fellow gamer, let me share some exciting news! If you’re craving immersive solo gameplay that goes beyond Showcase, I highly recommend diving into MyRise. What makes it even more appealing is the seamless integration of the storyline for both genders, creating one captivating narrative experience altogether.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m all hyped up about the latest storyline unfolding in the WWE universe. My main man, the top pick in the WWE Draft, is front and center. But here’s the twist: an invasion by NXT talent, including some familiar faces from the main roster. This plot sounds eerily similar to a teaser they dropped back in 2019, only for it to vanish without a trace, despite the buzz and excitement surrounding it. Guess ol’ Vince had his reasons, but let’s not go there right now.
MyRise stands out not only due to a storyline reminiscent of WWE productions, but primarily because of its exceptional delivery. All characters are voice-acted, with some like CM Punk delivering outstanding performances, while others such as Triple H could use improvement.
As a gamer, it’s awesome to feel like I’m living the WWE experience, from crafting my unique entrance, participating in live matches to level up my stats, and even managing my online reputation through social media interactions – it all adds to the immersion!
The goals found in the Showcase matches can also be seen in this version, although they don’t carry quite the same weight. Nevertheless, it’s essential to create a narrative, and blending that storytelling with gameplay results in an enjoyable gameplay mode.
WWE 2K25’s Gameplay Is As Good As Ever

In essence, it all falls flat if the essential gameplay is irritating. Luckily, that isn’t a concern for WWE 2K25. Instead, it delivers superbly in recreating the wrestling experience through its gameplay, thanks to some significant improvements made this year.
1. As a fan, I’m thrilled about the return of chain wrestling, as it elevates each bout with its intricate movesets, even if the controls take some getting used to at first.
2. The upgrade from pre-rendered cutscenes and video highlights to in-game animations is a breath of fresh air, seamlessly blending matches together while maintaining that cinematic flair.
In Showcase, it’s most effectively shown off, but the impact of those key moves becomes even more intense when they smoothly shift into the game’s animated version.
My main criticism lies in the quick succession of counterattacks; in simpler terms, it can be quite challenging not to get “repeatedly staggered” when your energy is running low. However, WWE 2K25 does a commendable job by providing opportunities for a strategic opening and capitalizing on them effectively.
Keep in mind: Instead of thinking as a powerful warrior from a video game, consider yourself a WWE star aiming for recovery, resurgence, and opportunity.
As a gamer, I can tell you that the Payback system offers a quick resurrection, but remember, it needs to be charged, and it’s not always at my disposal.
Absolutely, if you’re inclined towards chaos, you certainly have the freedom to engage in it. Whether it’s heated altercations in parking lots, groundbreaking intergender wrestling matches where Rhea Ripley dominates Dominik Mysterio, or thrilling high-flying bouts that WWE is renowned for, there’s an option to suit every taste.

Closing Thoughts
WWE 2K25 isn’t perfect; some modes like MyFaction and The Island seem tailored for heavy spenders, but overall, it stands as one of the best wrestling games and top sports games ever made. It offers a vast amount of content that keeps you engaged long after WrestleMania ends.
The Showcase mode is a heartfelt tribute to The Bloodline, while MyGM and MyRise will keep you entertained for quite some time. Even more so, the story in MyRise left me amazed with how much I enjoyed it. If you’re looking for more WWE content given its current popularity, WWE 2K25 is an excellent choice.
