WWE 2K26 Leak Reveals 4 New Match Types

According to reports, WWE 2K26 will include four new match types that weren’t in the previous game. The game will also feature a special showcase mode centered around CM Punk. Visual Concepts has been working to include a wide variety of wrestling match types in their WWE games, reflecting the many different matches seen over the years.

WWE 2K25 added new match types like Intergender, Underground, and Bloodline Rules matches – the latter featuring interference from teammates at different points. The previous game, WWE 2K24, brought in Special Guest Referee, Casket, and Ambulance Matches, along with three kinds of Gauntlet Matches, consistently updating the gameplay experience.

  • 3 Stages of Hell Match
  • Dumpster Match
  • I Quit Match
  • Inferno Match

A recent report suggests that WWE 2K26 will bring back several popular match types that haven’t been featured in official WWE games for years. According to Insider Gaming, players can expect the return of the I Quit Match, Inferno Match, and 3 Stages of Hell, along with the addition of the Dumpster Match. The I Quit Match, where you must get your opponent to verbally submit, and the fiery Inferno Match haven’t been seen in a WWE 2K game since WWE 2K14. While the 3 Stages of Hell – a two-out-of-three falls match with varying rules for each fall – wasn’t previously in WWE 2K games, it was a staple of the older Smackdown vs. Raw series.

Details are scarce about the last remaining match type, but it will probably play a lot like matches already in WWE 2K24. A Dumpster Match, where you win by throwing your opponent into a dumpster and closing the lid, is similar to Ambulance or Casket Matches in WWE. The WWE 2K games handle these types of matches in the same way: you weaken your opponent, stun them, get them into the dumpster (or ambulance/casket), and then win with a quick button-mashing sequence.

CM Punk Showcase Coming in WWE 2K26

The leaked information reveals that current World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk will be a featured star in WWE 2K25‘s Showcase Mode, offering players a look back at some of his most memorable matches from WWE and ECW. His return in WWE 2K24 was a major draw for fans, especially through the May 2024 ECW Punk Pack DLC. WWE 2K25 already includes five versions of CM Punk, with his base model rated at 92, suggesting even more playable characters and improved stats will be available in the new game.

The report confirms that players will still be able to create matches between male and female wrestlers in WWE 2K26, allowing them to use the full roster. Separately, a video featuring Logan Paul suggests WWE 2K26 might highlight the Attitude Era, as it included an old logo from the early 2000s. Given the game already has many Attitude Era legends like The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin, this could mean even more content and wrestlers from that popular time period are on the way.
