X-23 Is The Wrong Character To Replace Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine

Summary

  • Fans hope X-23 does not replace Wolverine due to her minor role in Deadpool & Wolverine.
  • Marvel may recast Wolverine for a fresh X-Men reboot post-Avengers: Secret Wars in MCU.
  • Recasting Wolverine provides an opportunity for Marvel to bring originality and youth to the X-Men franchise.

There’s a lot of speculation about Hugh Jackman’s role as Wolverine in the Marvel Universe and how much longer he’ll continue to play this part. He first appeared in the Marvel Universe alongside Deadpool, but it remains undecided if we’ll see him again or if Marvel might opt to replace the legendary X-Men character with a new actor.

A popular idea among fans since her introduction in “Logan” has been centered around the character of Laura, more famously known as X-23. She’s the genetically cloned daughter of Wolverine and shares many of his powers and traits. However, at this point, she seems like an ill-fitted choice for some fans.

Why Do Fans Want X-23 To Become Wolverine?

In essence, Logan was a highly acclaimed film, and a significant factor in its success can be attributed to Dafne Keen’s exceptional portrayal of Laura. For such a young actress, her performance was mesmerizing, garnering praise from fans and showcasing a new facet of Jackman’s Wolverine character. Her ability to portray the complexities of the angry Wolverine persona made her stand out. From the moment she stepped into the role, it felt like a natural progression, especially considering their shared mutant powers as father and daughter. This potential familial connection could have provided an intriguing storyline for Marvel, offering an interesting direction. However, Dafne Keen is not the only candidate for the role should Jackman choose to step down, as other actors are also in contention for the Wolverine part.

Her Deadpool & Wolverine Appearance Hurt Her Chances

Marvel reintroduced X-23 into the storyline of Deadpool & Wolverine, one of many memorable guest appearances in the film. Fans were thrilled to see her return and make her debut in the MCU through the multiverse, but this appearance might limit her chances of assuming the role of Wolverine if Jackman decides to step down. X-23 was portrayed as part of a team with other characters, which gave an impression that she held a secondary position compared to the main characters, Deadpool and Wolverine. Although this was intentional since the movie primarily focused on these two characters, if Marvel aims for X-23 to have a more prominent role in the future, this approach might not be ideal.

People unfamiliar with Logan might initially perceive X-23 as not being a significant character, overshadowed by Gambit and Blade instead. Her background and connection with Wolverine were not explored thoroughly enough for viewers’ satisfaction, leading to an underdeveloped portrayal of her. While her brief appearance in Logan was enjoyable for those already familiar with the character, it did not provide adequate focus to convey her potential as a main character, suggesting she might be relegated to a smaller role if she returns to the MCU.

Marvel Would Be Best Totally Recasting Wolverine

Marvel Studios values Wolverine as a character they’ve incorporated into their franchise because of his immense popularity and captivating persona. Given how closely tied Jackman is to this role and the exceptional performance he’s delivered, finding a replacement won’t be straightforward. There have been whispers that he might continue in this capacity for a while longer, but Marvel Studios may soon consider recasting Wolverine.

In the not-too-distant future, I’ll be witnessing the arrival of the X-Men within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following their entry post the epic events of Avengers: Secret Wars. This influx of mutants into the franchise promises a revamped X-Men team unlike any we’ve seen before in the Fox movies. Given this exciting transformation, it seems fitting that Hugh Jackman, who has brilliantly portrayed Wolverine for so long, might step aside to make way for fresh faces. As for Laura Kinney, also known as X-23, I think it would be more effective if Marvel introduces a completely new actor to align with the innovative direction they’re taking with the other characters.

It appears that Marvel might be looking to cast younger actors for the traditional X-Men roles, which could make Hugh Jackman stand out in a negative way since he is older. However, introducing a character like X-23, who shares connections with Jackman, could spark hopes for his return. Instead, this situation presents an ideal chance for a complete reboot, as X-23 may not be the best fit for that role. With the conclusion of the Avengers series and the anticipated end of the multiverse, Marvel seems ready to embrace new beginnings.
