Filmmaker Ryan Coogler has shared some news about the highly anticipated return of the X-Files, the beloved ’90s sci-fi TV show known for its strange and unexplained cases. Originally airing in 1993, the series stars Gillian Anderson as FBI Agent and doctor Dana Scully, and David Duchovny as FBI agent Fox Mulder, who work together to uncover the truth behind bizarre incidents that defy logical explanation. Coogler’s update hints at bringing this classic show back to our screens after a seven-year hiatus since its last revival ended.

Over time, the captivating storylines and cultural relevance of the TV show The X-Files attracted a vast fanbase who remain dedicated even today. The show’s knack for exploring societal fears, particularly government conspiracies, resonated deeply with audiences. Of course, the evolving dynamic between Scully and Mulder, from a professional partnership to a romantic one in Season 7, also drew viewers in. Now, as discussions about its reboot continue, director Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Black Panther, offers updates and hints at the possibility of Gillian Anderson’s return.

Ryan Coogler Offers Exciting Update on X-Files Reboot Status

In a recent chat on Last Podcast On The Left, I shared some exciting news about my upcoming projects. I mentioned that after the release of the supernatural horror film Sinners in April, I’ll be diving straight into working on the reboot of The X-Files. As for the new X-Files episodes, I expressed my hope that they will be genuinely terrifying – if we can strike the perfect balance with the right atmosphere and scripting.

Currently, I’m focusing on the X-Files project. It’s what I’ll be tackling next, and I must admit, I’ve been eagerly anticipating this for quite some time. I can hardly wait to dive back in, and if we do our work well, some of these episodes might give you a real scare.

Is there excitement surrounding a potential return of Gillian Anderson’s character Scully in an X-Files reboot? While Coogler hasn’t shared details, he has confirmed discussions with the actress and expressed enthusiasm for her role in the upcoming film Tron: Ares. However, Coogler did not disclose if Anderson is considering a return or not. He appears optimistic about their conversation and desires the X-Files reboot to attract new viewers.

I’ve had a conversation with the amazing Gillian. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I can hardly wait to meet her. She’s working on Tron, and I recently watched a trailer for it. When we talked, she was wrapping up that project. However, we plan to create something truly exceptional, something that will appeal to dedicated X-Files fans and potentially attract new ones as well.

Because Ryan Coogler is currently busy with other projects such as directing the Black Panther movie series, Creed, a Rocky spin-off, and Fruitvale Station, he has the perfect background to breathe new life into an X-Files reboot and create something truly exceptional. Additionally, this could attract a completely fresh fan base who weren’t around during the original show’s significant cultural influence in the 90s. At this point, we can only speculate whether Scully and Mulder will be part of the reboot, but hopefully, more details about their involvement and a possible release date will be announced soon.
