It’s been whispered that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might be developing a television show centered around a particular band of mutants, as depicted in the comic books.
Under Disney’s ownership of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios has been strategizing a reboot for the X-Men universe within the MCU for quite some time now. Although they appear to be wrapping up the Fox era gracefully by inviting actors from previous X-Men films to play their mutant characters again in the multiverse of the MCU, many fans anticipate that new actors will eventually take on these legendary roles and a fresh start for the franchise will be initiated through a new movie. However, there’s a buzzing rumor suggesting that Marvel Studios might have plans for an additional X-Men project within their cinematic universe.
Details On Marvel Studios’ Rumored X-Men MCU TV Series
During a recent episode of Jeff Sneider and John Rocha’s The Hot Mic, the two hosts discussed the report on Marvel Studios’ decision to pause development on 3 MCU shows: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc. Sneider noted that when he heard about the Strange Academy show, a source told him an Academy X series was in development that could potentially lead into the X-Men MCU movie. Another source told Sneider they would be surprised if Marvel Studios started doing X-Men MCU shows before the movie and that the Academy X series would be a spinoff of the movie that would release after. Regardless of whether it would precede or follow the X-Men MCU movie, Sneider said both sources were seemingly of the opinion that a live-action Academy X series about “young mutants” was in the works.
In the course of our chat, Sneider expressed his thoughts on the 3 Marvel Studios projects rumored to be on hold. He’s optimistic that the Nova Marvel show could debut as early as next year and suggested that if so, it might have been a strategic move by Marvel Studios to delay the project, allowing them to potentially cast Brandon Sklenar as Richard Rider who is currently unavailable. Sneider also shared a theory that the Strange Academy series could be Marvel Studio’s version of a Harry Potter-like show, filled with magical characters. He speculated that maybe Marvel Studios opted for Academy X instead of directly competing with Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter TV series by creating Strange Academy.
For those not in the know, the students of Academy X made their debut in Marvel Comics’ New X-Men #23, essentially representing a fresh version of the New Mutants. The original lineup consisted of lesser-known characters such as Anole, Armor, the Cuckoo Triplets, Dust, Elixir, Prodigy, Pixie, and Rockslide. These Academy X students were being tutored at the Xavier Institute, with the aim of them joining and potentially leading the X-Men team in the future.
Absolutely, if Marvel Studios is considering an Academy X series, they have plenty of well-known young mutants to select from. If Academy X appears before the X-Men movie in the MCU, it could serve as a great method to familiarize audiences with the team prior to their cinematic debut. However, many fans are eagerly anticipating Marvel Studios’ X-Men film and don’t want to wait too much longer. No matter which project is launched first, fans are thrilled to witness how Kevin Feige and the MCU team handle the X-Men adaptation.
