According to Xbox president Sarah Bond, the next Xbox console is designed to deliver a top-of-the-line gaming experience. While details are still scarce, Bond suggests that the development of the ROG Ally handheld could offer clues about Microsoft’s approach to building the next generation console.
It’s been almost five years since the Xbox Series X and the less expensive Series S launched worldwide, arriving just two days before the PlayStation 5. Recent sales estimates from Take-Two Interactive show around 30 million Xbox Series X|S consoles have been sold, which is fewer than the PS5 and about a fifth of the Nintendo Switch’s sales. This third-place position, along with some recent Microsoft decisions, sparked rumors that Xbox might stop making consoles altogether.
Xbox President Says Next Console Will Provide a ‘Premium’ Experience
Rumors about a new Xbox were put to rest after reports surfaced on October 20th confirming its development. The following day, Sarah Bond, Head of Xbox, spoke with Mashable on YouTube. While the conversation focused on the ROG Xbox Ally, it also touched on the next-generation console. When asked for details, Bond didn’t share much, but stated the new console will offer players “a very premium, very high-end curated experience.”

So, I’ve been following the new Xbox handheld, the ROG Ally, and it’s pretty interesting. It sounds like Microsoft might be testing the waters for future console development with this thing. Basically, it lets you play Xbox and PC games on the go using cloud gaming, and you can even continue your progress from your console or PC. It sold out super fast when pre-orders opened, which shows how much hype there was! But, it’s not all perfect. A lot of people are complaining about performance and how tricky it is to manage since it runs on Windows 11. Still, I’m excited to see where this goes.

The ROG Ally X costs $999, and one interviewer questioned whether recent price increases from Xbox might make gaming less affordable for some players. Microsoft’s Jason Bond reassured them by pointing out the ROG Xbox Ally is $400 cheaper, emphasizing Xbox’s commitment to offering options for all budgets. However, with Game Pass Ultimate now costing $10 more per month and the Xbox Series X and S also becoming more expensive, Bond may need to further convince budget-minded gamers that Xbox remains accessible.
