Throughout the 2020s, Microsoft consistently held specialized game events. However, it wasn’t until January 2023 that they began branding these events as Xbox Developer Direct. A follow-up event, focusing on sneak peeks of upcoming Xbox games, occurred in January 2024 under the same branding.

Following the usual schedule, Microsoft has officially revealed that a 2025 edition of their event is coming up. Interestingly enough, this anticipated showcase is slated for January 23rd, with the proceedings starting at 10am Pacific Time (PT), 1pm Eastern Time (ET), and 6pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). This latest development might not be unexpected by the most vigilant of fans, as whispers of an Xbox Developer Direct 2025 announcement on January 9th had already been circulating.

Regarding what attendees might see at the forthcoming event, Microsoft has thus far disclosed three games slated to appear at the showcase. One of them is “South of Midnight,” an intriguing action-adventure game being developed by Compulsion Games, a Canadian studio recognized for “Contrast” and “We Happy Few.” “South of Midnight” was initially unveiled in June 2023, but its launch date remains undecided. It’s possible that the release date could be revealed at the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct.

At the January 2025 event, another title set to be showcased is titled “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33“, an RPG from French studio Sandfall Interactive. Similar to their previous work “South of Midnight“, Sandfall’s upcoming RPG hasn’t set a specific release date yet, but it was previously confirmed for a 2025 launch. Additionally, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” will be available on Xbox Game Pass on its release day. The last title confirmed for the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 is id Software’s “Doom: The Dark Ages“, which was initially announced in June 2024. Already playable at QuakeCon 2024 back in August, speculation points to a mid-2025 launch for this shooter.

At the upcoming event, it’s possible that these three titles won’t be the only games on display. The first two Xbox Developer Directs, both lasting over 40 minutes, revealed several games each. For instance, the 2024 showcase offered sneak peeks at games like Avowed, Ara: History Untold, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and Visions of Mana. Likewise, the 2025 Xbox Developer Direct might unveil some extra surprises that Microsoft has decided to keep under wraps until the event itself.
