Xbox Game Pass Adding Critically-Acclaimed Game on September 18

Moving forward in 2025, the Xbox Game Pass service is planned to include another critically acclaimed game, the sequel to Frostpunk, titled Frostpunk 2. This game is being developed by 11 Bit Studios and will become available as a day-one release on September 18 for both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

Initially, it was planned to release Frostpunk 2 across multiple platforms. However, instead of a multi-platform launch, Frostpunk 2 debuted exclusively on PC in September 2024. Despite some initial challenges with console ports, the developers managed to deliver an exceptional PC version that garnered critical praise and sold over half a million copies by year’s end. Just a few months following the release of a substantial free update for Frostpunk 2 in May, 11 Bit Studios has confirmed that the city-building game will be available on consoles this September.

On September 18, you’ll find “Frostpunk 2” on shelves for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 – nearly a year after its debut. Additionally, it will be accessible as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, adding to the service’s offerings in 2025. Apart from the regular version, two unique editions will also be offered: the Icebreaker Edition ($49.99) comes with a New London pop-up diorama, digital artbook and novella download codes, a physical game copy, and the standard edition features. The Whiteout Edition ($99.99), on the other hand, includes everything from the Icebreaker Edition plus a multi-layered shadowbox, keychain, postcards, embroidered patch, stickers, and an upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, granting access to three future DLCs. Pre-orders for these “Frostpunk 2” versions are now open through Skybound Games.

Xbox Game Pass to Receive Frostpunk 2 in September

Without a doubt, Xbox Game Pass has truly shone in 2025, welcoming numerous hit games like “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” and “Doom: The Dark Ages” to its subscription service. In July, the catalog experienced a significant upgrade with a diverse selection of day-one releases, such as “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4” and “Wuchang: Fallen Feathers”. With highly anticipated titles like “Grounded 2” (July 29), “Frostpunk 2”, and “Ninja Gaiden 4” (October 21) scheduled to join Game Pass for the remainder of the year, the lineup promises to grow even more enticing in the coming months.

11 Bit Studios is gearing up for the much-anticipated console debut of Frostpunk 2, while simultaneously mapping out plans for a new game in the series. In April, it was made public that the developer intends to roll out a completely new Frostpunk title in the year 2027.
