Starting today, January 13th, you can play Star Wars Outlaws with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. It’s the first major, high-profile game added to the service this year, and the fourth game overall added since the beginning of the year.
Released in August 2024, Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment, a studio owned by Ubisoft. It offers a different take on the Star Wars universe, focusing on the life of a scoundrel and smuggler rather than the traditional Jedi story. Players take on the role of Kay Vess, a resourceful thief trying to build a better life for herself and her loyal Merqaal companion, Nix, who helps with scouting. The game received mostly positive reviews, averaging a score of 75 on OpenCritic, though some reviewers noted issues with the stealth gameplay and occasional technical problems.
Star Wars Outlaws Now Available on Two Xbox Game Pass Tiers
About 16 months after it first came out, Star Wars Outlaws became available on Xbox Game Pass on Tuesday, January 13th. While it wasn’t available on day one of the service, players need a PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscription to play it – the standard Game Pass tier doesn’t include it. This is a little unusual, but not unheard of, especially with games from Ubisoft. For instance, The Crew Motorfest was also added to the higher Game Pass tiers in November 2025, even though it had been out for over two years at that time.
Okay, so Star Wars Outlaws didn’t exactly fly off the shelves, but honestly, I was really impressed with how Ubisoft tweaked their usual open-world stuff. They actually cut down on a lot of the boring, repetitive tasks – like climbing a million towers – and packed in more interesting things to do. What really stood out was the reputation system. Every choice you make with one faction affects how others see you, so you have to be careful! The main story is a good length, though there aren’t a ton of side quests. Still, if you’re a completionist like me, you’re looking at around 70 hours of gameplay.

Xbox Game Pass is getting three new games in January 2026. First, players can explore the mystery in My Little Pony: A Zephyr Heights Mystery starting January 15th. Then, on January 20th, Resident Evil Village and the brand-new game MIO: Memories in Orbit will be added. Microsoft is also planning to reveal the next set of Game Pass titles for January 2026 on January 20th.
Okay, so things are a little mixed with Xbox Game Pass right now. Five games, including the awesome Neon White, are leaving on January 15th, and honestly, that kind of cancels out all the new stuff we got in the first half of the month. But it’s usually like this at the start of the year – they tend to add more games later in January than they remove. Last year, in January 2025, they added nine new games in the second half of the month, while only taking away four. Hopefully, we’ll see a similar trend this year!
