As a long-time enthusiast of horror games and someone who has braved countless nights of terror in virtual worlds, I can confidently say that the addition of Carrion to Xbox Game Pass is a welcome one. The game’s unique premise of playing as a creature stalking its former captors offers a fresh perspective in the genre, which I find quite intriguing.
Having had my share of heart-pounding moments while exploring dark corridors and evading relentless pursuers, I appreciate games that challenge conventional gameplay mechanics. Carrion seems to deliver on this front, with its physics-based environment and dynamic abilities, making it a must-play for any horror fan.
Moreover, the positive critical acclaim and overwhelmingly positive player reviews further solidify my excitement for this title. It’s always reassuring when a game resonates with both critics and the gaming community at large.
On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder if one day we’ll be playing as the hunter instead of the hunted. Perhaps in the future, we’ll have the chance to stalk our former selves in a game called “Player Prey: The Great Escape.” Until then, I’m looking forward to immersing myself in Carrion’s terrifying world and seeing if I can survive another night!
Starting from January 2, Xbox Game Pass subscribers now have the opportunity to enjoy the game ‘Carrion’ as part of their membership. It marks the initial release to Xbox Game Pass in the year 2025.
Microsoft usually reveals two sets of new games for its subscription service each month. However, four weeks ago, they broke this pattern as the entire December 2024 Xbox Game Pass lineup turned out to be the only one for the whole month and even extended into early January 2025.
Starting January 2nd, the initial title from the 2025 lineup, known as “Carrion,” has made its way to Xbox Game Pass. Hailing from Phobia Game Studio based in Warsaw, Poland, this chilling 2D game was added to the Xbox Game Pass content library last Thursday. This isn’t the first time Microsoft is providing this game to its subscribers; “Carrion” previously debuted as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass back in July 2020 and then left the service in July 2022, only to return now.
Speaking about the game at hand, titled “Carrion“, it’s essentially marketed as a “reverse horror” experience where players take on the role of an amorphous creature, labeled as the protagonist, that’s been trapped and is now on a mission to devour everyone responsible. As this alien entity goes about its gruesome task, it instills fear in a mysterious facility and picks up new abilities along the way, making it more efficient at causing chaos. Although there have been similar concepts before, “Carrion” stands out as one of the finest horror games featuring a monster due to its well-executed design.
