Xbox Game Pass Adds the RPG That Launched a Legendary Franchise

Xbox Game Pass now includes a remastered version of the original Final Fantasy game. Since its release on the NES, Final Fantasy has become incredibly important to the gaming world, inspiring countless sequels, spin-offs, and remakes. For over thirty years, fans have loved the series for its epic stories, memorable characters, beautiful music, and innovative gameplay. Now, thanks to its addition to Xbox Game Pass, the very first game in this legendary franchise is easier to play than ever before.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series brought the first six Final Fantasy games to modern platforms like PC, mobile, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. These remasters updated the classic games with beautiful 2D pixel art, improved graphics, and quality-of-life features, all while staying true to the original spirit. Players loved how the remasters combined the nostalgia of the originals with modern conveniences, making these foundational RPGs enjoyable for both longtime fans and new players. The updated visuals and user interface were particularly well-received.

Xbox Game Pass Adds Final Fantasy 1 from the Pixel Remaster Series

Xbox Game Pass recently added the first Final Fantasy game from the Pixel Remaster series, giving fans and subscribers more ways to play. Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and PC members can stream the game, or play it on Xbox Series X/S or PC. This means both longtime fans and new players can experience the original Final Fantasy – the game that started it all – without needing to buy it.

The story of the original Final Fantasy, while straightforward compared to today’s games, is a classic that many RPG players will recognize. It established many of the conventions still used in the genre. Players control a group of four heroes, the Warriors of Light, each with a dimmed crystal, on a quest to defeat evil and restore the world. They do this by building a team, exploring a large world, and battling monsters in dungeons. The game’s character classes and turn-based combat system became incredibly influential and are still common features in RPGs today.

With the first Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster now available on Xbox Game Pass, fans are wondering if the rest of the series will follow. Naoki Yoshida, known as Yoshi-P and the director of Final Fantasy 14, has said he’d like to see more Final Fantasy and other Square Enix games on Xbox. It’s possible more classic titles could be added to Game Pass in the future, but that will likely depend on how well this first game performs.

Xbox Game Pass isn’t just getting Final Fantasy – it already has a great selection of classic RPGs! You can enjoy single-player adventures like The Elder Scrolls 3, 4, and 5, plus updated versions of Legend of Mana and Trials of Mana released in 2024. For fans of the Mass Effect series, the remastered Legendary Edition is available with an Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription. And don’t forget Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition – two more fantastic RPGs to explore.
