Xbox Game Pass is adding a unique farming simulator called Grave Seasons. While it looks like a peaceful farming game, it has a dark secret: one of the townspeople is a supernatural serial killer. Though there are already several relaxing farm games on Xbox Game Pass, Grave Seasons stands out with its spooky and unsettling themes.
At first glance, Grave Seasons appears similar to popular games like Stardew Valley, offering a charming farming and life simulation experience with friendly townspeople. However, Grave Seasons has a dark twist: at the start of each new game, one randomly chosen town resident becomes a serial killer with supernatural abilities. This adds a mystery element where you must deduce who the killer is, alongside unsettling scenes featuring horror elements like decaying bodies and frightening creatures.
Creepy Life Sim Grave Seasons is Coming to Xbox Game Pass
Originally announced for PC in 2024, Grave Seasons will now launch on Steam alongside versions for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on August 14. During a showcase on March 26, it was also revealed that the game will be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers, and through Xbox Play Anywhere, Xbox Cloud, and Xbox on PC, providing multiple ways for Microsoft players to enjoy it.
A really unique part of this new game is the mystery of who the killer is. Players will live a normal life – farming, fishing, and getting to know the people of Ashenridge – all while trying to figure out which of their neighbors is secretly a monster. Like other life simulation games, you’ll build relationships and watch the townspeople’s stories unfold as you gain their trust. However, because the killer could be anyone, befriending – or even romancing – someone could put you in real danger.
In a previous interview with TopMob, the creators of Grave Seasons from Perfect Garbage – Emmett Nahil and Son M. – explained that they aimed for an equal balance between romance and horror in their game. They believe both elements are powerful ways to tell a story. Players will experience everyday life alongside intense paranormal investigations, all while trying to stop a killer from harming the town. The developers, who love both dating sims and horror games, hope that Grave Seasons will connect with players by using the contrast between love and fear to create a unique and engaging experience, rather than letting those feelings clash.
Even though Grave Seasons isn’t out for a few months, fans looking for similar cozy games can play options already available on Xbox Game Pass, like Stardew Valley, Starsand Island, and Disney Dreamlight Valley. If you’re really excited for the mix of romance and horror in Grave Seasons and want to try something from the same developer, Perfect Garbage’s previous game, Love Shore – a dark romance visual novel – is available for $14.99 on the Xbox Store and Steam.
