Xbox Game Pass is Losing 2 of Its Best Games on December 15

Summary

  • Two highly-rated Xbox Game Pass games, Forza Horizon 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, leave the service on December 15.
  • Both games are available at heavy discounts for purchase before removal.
  • A total of 13 games are leaving Xbox Game Pass in December 2024.

As an avid gamer with a penchant for Xbox Game Pass, I must say, this December 2024 update has left me with a bitter-sweet feeling. On one hand, it’s always exciting to see new games join the service, but on the other, saying goodbye to some of the best games like Forza Horizon 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider is never easy.

On Sunday, December 15th, two highly-ranked titles from the Xbox Game Pass collection will be taken off the service. It’s common for Xbox Game Pass games to rotate out monthly, with one group leaving in the middle, and another on the last day.

Usually, Microsoft announces games being removed from Xbox Game Pass in two separate notices. However, they’ve mixed things up for the December 2024 departures, possibly due to the holiday season. This announcement reveals that a total of 13 games will be leaving Xbox Game Pass in December 2024, with two major ones set to go on December 15.

Regrettably, Xbox Game Pass subscribers have until Sunday, December 15th to enjoy critically-praised titles such as “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Forza Horizon 4”. These games, highly rated within the Xbox Game Pass library, will be leaving the service, making it sad news for players. “Forza Horizon 4” boasts a 92 overall rating, while “Rise of the Tomb Raider” has a commendable average critic score of 86. If you wish to own these games permanently, they are currently available at reduced prices. Given that “Forza Horizon 4” is not only being removed from Game Pass but also delisted entirely, it’s crucial to act promptly if you’re interested.

Due to expiring licenses, the digital version of “Forza Horizon 4” will no longer be available for purchase. However, good news! Physical copies of the game still exist, and the servers will continue to support those who wish to engage in its extensive online multiplayer options.

It’s unfortunate that popular games like “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Forza Horizon 4” are departing from Xbox Game Pass, but it’s important to note that they won’t be the only ones going. These titles will be joined by “Amnesia: The Bunker”, “Forager”, “Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan”, “The Quarry”, and “Tin Hearts” on December 15th. As we approach the end of the year, more games such as “Close to the Sun”, “Humankind”, “LEGO 2K Drive”, “McPixel 3”, and “Party Animals” (a day one release) will also be leaving the service on December 31st.

Things aren’t looking entirely bleak for Xbox Game Pass. Over the past few months, some significant day-one titles have been added to the service, such as “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.” Additionally, there are more exciting releases coming in January. Although the complete list of new Xbox Game Pass games for January 2025 has not yet been revealed, we do know that “Eternal Strands” and “Citizen Sleeper 2,” both day-one games, are expected to join the lineup.
