Xbox Game Pass is Losing One of Its Highest-Rated Games on July 31

Highlights

  • Three games are leaving Xbox Game Pass on July 31, including the highly-rated game A Short Hike.
  • New games coming to Game Pass in July include Flintlock, Dungeons of Hinterberg, and Kunitsu-Gami.
  • While the same number of games are leaving as coming, subscribers can look forward to big titles like Avowed and STALKER 2 later in 2024.

As a dedicated gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment every time I see games leaving Xbox Game Pass. But, I understand that it’s a part of the subscription service’s ebb and flow. The second half of July 2024 is no exception to this rule, with three games – A Short Hike, Train Sim World 4, and Venba – set to depart on July 31.

Three critically-acclaimed games will be departing from the Xbox Game Pass subscription service on July 31st. One of these games is “A Short Hike,” which enjoys a high rating on the platform. Microsoft typically adds more games to Game Pass than it removes each month. However, in the second half of July 2024, three games will be leaving while three new ones join.

Microsoft has announced the final additions to Xbox Game Pass for the second half of July 2024. Specifically, three more games are joining the platform, which will all be available this week. Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Dungeons of Hinterberg will arrive on Thursday, July 18, while the new Capcom game Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is set to debut on Friday, July 19. These three games will take the place of the ones that are set to leave Xbox Game Pass on July 31.

As an avid Xbox Game Pass subscriber, I’m sad to share that three games will be leaving our beloved platform on July 31. Among them are “A Short Hike,” “Train Sim World 4,” and “Venba.” Of these, “A Short Hike” is my personal favorite and one of the highest-rated games on Game Pass, boasting an impressive overall rating of 87.

Xbox Game Pass Games Leaving on July 31

  • A Short Hike
  • Train Sim World 4
  • Venba

In its debut in 2023, Train Sim World 4 received a mixed bag of criticisms due to being a specialized train simulator game. Given its nature, it might not attract a broader audience. Conversely, Venba, released around the same time, was generally praised for its captivating narrative and cooking themes. This game garnered an impressive four awards from various ceremonies, such as Best Newcomer and Social Impact accolades. Similar to A Short Hike, Venba is a quick-to-finish title, making it an excellent choice for Xbox Game Pass subscribers before it gets removed from the service.

With a score of 87 on OpenCritic, A Short Hike stands out among Game Pass titles as one of the highest-rated games.

Though it’s unfortunate that an equal number of games will be departing from Xbox Game Pass in the second half of July 2024 as there are new arrivals, the bright side is that numerous exciting new Xbox Game Pass games are scheduled for release later in 2024. Major titles like Avowed and STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, along with many more, are on their way. Subscribers can therefore anticipate a wealth of new games to keep them engaged throughout the remainder of this year.
