Xbox Game Pass is Losing Some Incredible RPGs on November 30

Three popular role-playing games are leaving Xbox Game Pass on November 30th, so players who want to try them should do so before then. While Xbox Game Pass usually adds more games than it removes, this is particularly true after the recent price increase. Microsoft raised the monthly cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to $29.99, but assured subscribers they’ll be getting even more games in return.

Following the recent price increase for Game Pass Ultimate, Microsoft quickly added over 40 games, including the popular Hogwarts Legacy and several Ubisoft titles. In the weeks since, Xbox Game Pass has seen a steady stream of new additions, from major releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to smaller, well-received indie games. Microsoft’s recent Xbox Partner Showcase also revealed even more games are on their way for subscribers. However, while new games are being added, some titles will also be leaving the service.

Several games will be removed from Xbox Game Pass on November 30th. Subscribers will lose access to Barbie Project Friendship, Lords of the Fallen, Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler 2, and SteamWorld Build. While Barbie Project Friendship‘s departure won’t likely upset many, it’s always sad to see a co-op game leave the service. The biggest loss will be for RPG fans, as both the 2023 Lords of the Fallen and the two Octopath Traveler games are being removed. It’s also unfortunate to see the city builder SteamWorld Build go, but the RPGs represent the most significant impact for Game Pass subscribers this November.

List of Games Leaving Xbox Game Pass on November 30

  • Barbie Project Friendship
  • Lords of the Fallen (2023)
  • Octopath Traveler
  • Octopath Traveler 2
  • SteamWorld Build

If you’re a fan of role-playing games, you might be disappointed to hear that Octopath Traveler and its sequel are leaving Game Pass soon. These games are classic turn-based RPGs from Square Enix, known for their beautiful HD-2D art style – a look the company has used in recent remakes. Both games were well-received by critics, especially fans of older Japanese RPGs. It’s a shame they’re leaving Game Pass so quickly, as each game takes around 60 hours to complete, and even longer – about 100 hours – if you aim to finish everything. Luckily, Game Pass subscribers have a chance to try them out and make some progress before they’re gone.

Unlike many RPGs, Lords of the Fallen (released in 2023) is a challenging action-RPG in the style of the ‘Souls’ games. It stands out with a special feature allowing players to experience two different versions of the game’s world. On average, completing Lords of the Fallen takes about half as long as finishing a Octopath Traveler game, though a player’s skill level will significantly impact playtime.

Octopath Traveler and Lords of the Fallen Are Leaving Game Pass at the Worst Possible Time

Both Octopath Traveler and Lords of the Fallen will soon be removed from Game Pass, coinciding with the upcoming releases of new installments in each series. Octopath Traveler 0 arrives on December 4th, and Lords of the Fallen 2 is planned for release sometime in 2026. If you’re interested in trying these RPGs, you only have until November 30th to play them through your Game Pass subscription.
