The Open-World Adventure of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game”
Developed by the PHL Collective, a team based in Philadelphia, this action-adventure game featuring everyone’s favorite sea sponge, SpongeBob SquarePants, was first introduced during the August 27th broadcast of Nintendo Direct. The game will be available for PC and consoles in early October 2024.
Approximately six months later, the video game titled “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game” was added to the Xbox Game Pass library, becoming accessible on April 16th. Due to its release not being simultaneous with other titles, “The Patrick Star Game” is available across all Xbox Game Pass tiers except for Core. Critically, it may not be the most celebrated “SpongeBob SquarePants” game ever created, as indicated by its 64 average rating on OpenCritic. Nevertheless, its reviews from players are overwhelmingly positive, with Steam users providing “Very Positive” feedback and the game earning a 4.4-star rating on the Xbox Store.

How Long Will SpongeBob SquarePants: TPSG Stay on Xbox Game Pass?
The game titled “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game” is the third production by PHL Collective that has been made available to Microsoft’s subscribers. The previous one, “DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace,” was only a part of the service for a year before it ended in September 2023. Contrastingly, “Ben 10: Power Trip” became available on Xbox Game Pass as far back as December 2021 and remains part of its content library. Given this pattern, it’s reasonable to expect that “SpongeBob SquarePants: TPSG” will stick around for at least a year.
The upcoming update for Xbox Game Pass is set for April 17th, introducing two fresh games: “Tempopo” and “Crime Scene Cleaner”. The latter title is quite straightforward, while “Tempopo” is a psychedelic platform game featuring puzzles and creature collection. In the last week of April 2025, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”, “Towerborne”, and “Far Cry 4” are set to join Xbox Game Pass, in that sequence.
On April 30th, about six games from Microsoft’s subscription service are set to leave, among them “Have a Nice Death” and “Sniper Elite 5”. In total, Xbox Game Pass is poised to part ways with 13 games this month, but also welcome 14 new ones. This will mark April as the first month since January with a net increase in the XGP library, as Microsoft added more games than they removed during that time (13 vs. 12).
