Xbox Game Pass Losing 9 Games Today

Key Takeaways

  • Nine games are leaving Xbox Game Pass on September 30.
  • The next wave of departures includes the first season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, one of the highest-rated games currently available to Microsoft’s subscribers.
  • September 2024 is going to be a small net negative for the XGP library, which has only added 12 titles since the turn of the month, but is about to up its monthly removals to 15.

As a seasoned Xbox Game Pass subscriber with countless hours invested in the service, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness as we bid farewell to nine games later today, September 30. Among them is one of my all-time favorites, The Walking Dead: Season 1, which I’ve replayed more times than I care to admit.

Nine video games are due to be removed from the Xbox Game Pass library today, specifically on September 30th. Among these removals is one of the top-rated games currently available on the service. This action will significantly increase the number of games scheduled to depart Xbox Game Pass in September 2024 by almost three times.

Generally speaking, Microsoft’s subscription service typically removes games from its library every fortnight, specifically on the first and last days of each month. The latest round of removals occurred on September 15, with Xbox Game Pass saying goodbye to six games, including titles like Slime Rancher 2, Payday 3, and FIFA 23.

Xbox Game Pass Losing One of Its Highest-Rated Games Today

In this round, the service is set to part ways with a significant nine games. Among the Xbox Game Pass titles leaving on September 30 are “The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season,” which enjoys high ratings among Microsoft’s subscribers. Additionally, the second season of Telltale’s popular adventure game will be leaving, along with “Gotham Knights,” “Let’s Build a Zoo,” “Loop Hero,” and “My Time At Portia.” Also departing are “PAW Patrol: Grand Prix,” “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy,” and the “Valheim” preview.

As an enthusiast, I was initially concerned when the Xbox Game Pass app suggested that “Warhammer 40,000: Darktide” would be leaving on September 30. However, it seems that this highly anticipated FPS by Fatshark is sticking around for a bit longer as it’s no longer marked as “leaving soon.” Although none of the games departing from the XGP catalog today can be completed in a single day, dedicated achievement hunters might still manage to finish one season of “The Walking Dead” and bump up their Gamerscore by 1,000 points.

Xbox Game Pass Will Remove More Games Than It Adds in September 2024

Starting next September 2024, the Xbox Game Pass will see a rise of 9 game removals, bringing the total to 15 games departing that month. This means that more games will leave the service than enter, resulting in a decrease for Microsoft’s offering. It’s important to note that since September 2023, only 12 new titles have been added to the Xbox Game Pass library. The last time this situation occurred was back in May 2024, when the XGP library lost two more games than it gained during that month.

Moving ahead, it has been confirmed that only one game, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,” will be added to Xbox Game Pass in October 2024. This title is set to become available on the service on October 25th. Due to Microsoft’s recent membership tier adjustments, players need a PC Game Pass or an Ultimate-level subscription to gain access to games like “Black Ops 6” on their release date.
