Summary
- Xbox Game Pass is losing five titles later today, May 31.
- The upcoming departures include popular Pokemon-like RPG Cassette Beasts, as well as Remnant 2 and Humanity.
- May 2025 has been a big net positive for Xbox Game Pass, with 17 new releases offsetting its 10 monthly removals.
On Xbox Game Pass, five titles are set to be removed later today, including the popular game resembling Pokemon, known as Cassette Beasts. Although this means that the games leaving in May 2025 from Xbox Game Pass will surpass ten, it’s important to note that this month has seen an unusually high influx of additions, making it a significant positive for the service.
Over a prolonged period, the XGP catalog has generally adhered to a predictable pattern for withdrawals, removing titles approximately every fortnight. The latest round of removals took place on May 15, with Xbox Game Pass saying goodbye to five games: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Chants of Sennaar, Hauntii, The Big Con, and Dune: Spice Wars.
On May 31st, the number of departures aligns with its mid-month counterpart in terms of size, considering all platforms. Specifically, Xbox Game Pass is set to remove just four games today, while PC Game Pass will lose an extra one. The common departures across various platforms include “Remnant 2”, “Cassette Beasts”, “Humanity”, and “Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer”. The single game leaving exclusively on PC is “Firework”, a 2021 indie mystery focusing on an unsolved cold case involving a gruesome massacre in a Chinese village.
Xbox Game Pass Games Leaving Next
Game | Added | How Long To Beat | Platform(s) |
---|---|---|---|
Remnant 2 | Nov 2023 | 18β82 hours | Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Cloud |
Cassette Beasts | Apr 2023 | 20β54 hours | Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Cloud |
Humanity | May 2024 | 11β17 hours | Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Cloud |
Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer | Jun 2023 | 3β8 hours | Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Cloud |
Firework | Jun 2024 | 3β5 hours | PC |
For PC gamers who enjoy indie horror titles like Firework, there’s still plenty of time left in their subscription to play it, even if they haven’t started yet. Firework, developed by Shiying Studio, typically takes about 4 hours to complete a single playthrough, similar to the time needed for a quick run through Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengeance of the Slayer. However, the latter, known for its lengthy gameplay, usually takes longer to finish on average. This group of games, including Firework, is scheduled to leave the subscription service around midnight, local time, on May 31st.
May 2025 Has Been a Big Net Positive for Xbox Game Pass Library
In May 2025, a total of 10 games will be taken off from Xbox Game Pass, but this month is still significant as it marks the service’s largest net gain since the start of the year. This is due to 17 new games being added, balancing out the removals. The latest additions to Xbox Game Pass were “Metaphor: ReFantazio” and “Spray Paint Simulator”, which became available on May 29. For reference, the size of the Xbox Game Pass library remained unchanged in April 2025. In contrast, March saw nine more games being removed than added, and February had eight more removals. However, January saw a positive balance with 13 additions and only 12 removals.
As we move forward, the service is preparing for a simultaneous launch on June 3rd, where Symphonia and Crypt Custodian will be available across all non-Core tiers. This day also marks the anticipated unveiling of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Wave 1 lineup for June 2025. The preliminary list includes Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition (set to release on June 10) and The Alters (June 13). Historically, it’s likely that FBC: Firebreak and Lost in Random: The Eternal Die, initially scheduled for the second half of June (on the 17th), might be added to this first wave lineup.
