The lineup for the first wave of Xbox Game Pass in August 2025 has been officially revealed. The upcoming releases over the next fortnight will feature “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”, “9 Kings”, and several other games, one of which is making a return to Xbox Game Pass after almost three years.
Microsoft usually reveals its monthly Wave 1 offerings on the first Tuesday of each month. Come July 2025, it was confirmed that seven Xbox Game Pass games would be available during the initial half of the month.
As a thrilled enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the August 2025 Wave 1 lineup for our service has been unveiled, featuring a total of eight games. Four of these are fresh arrivals, gracing our service for the first time: Rain World, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and 9 Kings. The remaining four games are familiar titles joining our standard Xbox Game Pass collection: Citizen Sleeper 2, Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders, MechWarrior 5: Clans, and Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap.

Kicking things off for the latest additions is “Rain World”, available from today, August 5. The first four Xbox Game Pass Standard titles will be added tomorrow. Interestingly, this month’s Wave 1 collection does not include any day-one additions for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Given that summer is generally a quiet time for new releases, this absence isn’t surprising. However, the second half of August is confirmed to bring at least two day-one titles: “Herdling” and “Gears of War: Reloaded”, set to arrive on August 21 and 26 respectively.
The four games coming out in the Standard tier this month follow a plan Microsoft shared last year, saying most new releases would take between six and twelve months to join Xbox Game Pass Standard. Since these upcoming games weren’t developed by Xbox studios, they might not stay in the Standard library for a full year. Today, Microsoft announced which games will be leaving the service soon, and it includes Anthem, Farming Simulator 22, and Persona 3 Reload – all set to depart on August 15th as previously mentioned on the “Leaving Soon” section of the Xbox app at the beginning of this month.
Moving forward, we expect the lineup for Wave 2 this month to be unveiled on August 19th. It’s been confirmed that “Gears of War: Reloaded” and “Herdling” are part of it, but the rest is still a secret. Interestingly, August 19th is also when Microsoft plans to reveal the games that will be removed from Xbox Game Pass at the end of the month.
