Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Gets 48 New Games and $10 Price Hike

Microsoft has revealed that the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will increase to $29.99 a month. However, they are also adding 48 games to the service. The cost of Xbox Game Pass has gone up over time, but despite being more expensive than when it launched, it remains one of the best values you can find in gaming.

An Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership gives you access to a large library of games, including new titles available on the day they launch. These day one releases are the main reason people subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, and there’s a lot to be excited about in the coming months. The Xbox Game Pass October 2025 lineup looks particularly impressive, featuring major day one releases such as Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2 coming soon.

Even so, many fans will probably be disappointed with the increase in Game Pass Ultimate’s price from $19.99 to $29.99 each month. The new price takes effect right away for anyone new to the service, and on November 4th for those who already subscribe. Xbox is increasing the price because Game Pass Ultimate now includes games from Ubisoft+ and, starting November 18th, benefits from Fortnite Crew. For Fortnite players who already pay for Fortnite Crew, the price increase is essentially covered by these added benefits, but those who aren’t interested in Fortnite may not be happy about the change.

Ultimate isn’t the only Xbox Game Pass plan changing. Xbox Game Pass Standard is being discontinued and replaced with the new Xbox Game Pass Premium tier, which costs $14.99 a month. Premium offers a larger game library than Standard, ensuring first-party Xbox titles arrive within a year of their release-with Call of Duty being the exception. Importantly, Premium now includes access to online multiplayer. Previously, Game Pass Standard didn’t include this, which was an odd omission.

Lastly, the Xbox Game Pass Core tier is being updated. It will now be called Xbox Game Pass Essential, and costs $9.99 a month. This service includes unlimited cloud gaming, a hand-picked collection of Game Pass games, and lets you play those games on your PC. This tier also gives you access to online multiplayer, plus a variety of other benefits.

This unexpected price hike and change to Game Pass tiers will probably cause a big reaction from users. $29.99 a month is a significant amount, and it’s unclear how this will affect the number of Game Pass subscribers.
