As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel like a kid on Christmas Eve as I eagerly anticipate the arrival of Age of Mythology: Retold. This remake of the cult-classic 2002 RTS game has been a long time coming, and the fact that it’s now available for preload via Xbox Game Pass is simply mind-blowing!

Members with an Xbox Game Pass subscription are able to start downloading “Age of Mythology: Retold” in advance. This long-awaited real-time strategy game is set to launch in the beginning of September and will be available for immediate play on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

The revamp of the game “Age of Mythology” was first unveiled in October 2022. A team made up of several studios, including World’s Edge, Tantalus Media, Forgotten Empires, Virtuos Games, and CaptureAge, is collaborating on its development.

Age of Mythology: Retold Preloads Are Now Live

starting August 20th, the new version of “Age of Mythology: Retold” will be ready for pre-download. If you’ve pre-ordered the RTS or have an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, you can preload it now from the Microsoft/Xbox Store on both PC and Xbox Series X/S. The game is about 23GB in size before its official release. Preloads for Steam are not yet available, but they’re expected soon. “Age of Mythology: Retold” is set to launch on September 4.

Age of Mythology: Retold Early Access Starts August 28

If you buy the enhanced version, “Age of Mythology: Retold Premium Edition,” you’ll get to start playing it a week ahead of time, beginning on August 28. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can enjoy this early access period by purchasing the $24.99 Premium Edition Upgrade without owning the game initially. In addition to early play, the Premium Edition includes the Freyr Norse mythology gods pack and a legacy deity portrait pack. It also offers access to two downloadable content packs following release. The first DLC is a remake of the “Tale of the Dragon” expansion for the 2015 “Age of Mythology: Extended Edition, ” while the second one promises a completely new gaming experience.

For World’s Edge, the release of “Age of Mythology: Retold” signifies a significant leap as it will simultaneously debut on both PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Unlike their previous games that primarily focused on PC releases, with Xbox versions coming much later, such as in the case of “Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition” and “Age of Empires 4”.

Besides “Age of Mythology: Retold,” other games are slated to arrive on Xbox Game Pass next month. On September 3, you’ll find Monster and their sci-fi transportation sim joining the service. Following closely is 11 Bit Studios’ post-apocalyptic city builder “Frostpunk 2” on September 20. The 4X strategy game “Ara: History Untold” will add to Microsoft’s content collection on the 24th. It was previously planned that the much-awaited “STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl” would be part of the Xbox Game Pass September 2024 lineup, but this title has been delayed and is now set for release in November 20.
