Summary
- Some European Xbox gamers faced a recent issue preventing them from playing due to the error message: “You need to be online.”
- Microsoft is actively working to resolve recent Xbox issues, with the current problem believed to have been fixed.
Some European Xbox gamers have recently suffered from an issue in which they were unable to play games due to error messages telling them they were not online. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for the Xbox network to suffer from temporary outages, and this issue was one of the most recent examples of this problem.
2020 saw the launch of the Xbox Series X/S by Microsoft. However, despite this, only approximately 30 million units have been sold worldwide compared to the 65 million units of the PlayStation 5 that have been sold since their release.
Now, some gamers in Europe have encountered an issue while trying to play on Xbox devices. According to a social media post made by a gamer who had this problem, these players receive a message from the system saying that they need to be online to play games, with an error message displaying the code 0x803f9008. This error occurred despite the gamers being connected and able to download games from the Xbox Store or stream using apps. In the post shared by one gamer, it’s possible to see that users from countries such as Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, and others have been affected. At the time of this report, however, it seems that the issue has been resolved and gamers in these locations can access their library of games normally.
Some Xbox Gamers Have Been Unable to Play Due to “You Need to be Online” Errors
More recently, Xbox users have encountered several problems, one of which was a disruption in Xbox Live back in November 2024. During that period, many players experienced difficulties using the service, which resulted in an outage that hindered their ability to engage in online gaming or utilize services like xCloud.
Lately, it appears that an update for the Xbox console has been reportedly restoring some players’ systems to their original settings. This problem occurred within the Xbox Insiders program, where gamers can preview updates before they are made available to everyone. Unfortunately, this led to numerous players experiencing a system reset, erasing their profiles, game collections, and other data from the console unintentionally.
Luckily for Xbox enthusiasts, Microsoft isn’t just addressing these issues, but they’re also working on an intriguing new project. Recently, details regarding the next-generation Xbox console were disclosed. As per the latest report, this upcoming device is intended to be a handheld console and is scheduled for release in 2025. It’s rumored that Microsoft might collaborate with another tech company on this project, and the console could potentially support both Xbox Game Pass and Steam, which could make it highly attractive. Further updates about this project are expected to surface soon.
