US customers will soon see a price increase on Xbox consoles due to ongoing tariffs between the US and China. Microsoft announced that starting October 3rd, the Xbox Series X and Series S will cost more. Specifically, the Xbox Series S 512GB will increase from $379 to $399.
Okay, so prices are going up, and it’s mostly because of that whole trade war between the US and China. Basically, the tariffs put in place a while back are hitting the gaming industry hard. Some companies are moving production to places like Vietnam and India to avoid the tariffs, but others, like Sony and Nintendo, are just passing the cost onto us gamers. That’s why the PlayStation 5 and the original Switch are now more expensive – it’s a direct result of those decisions.
Microsoft is raising prices on Xbox Series X/S consoles in the US starting October 3rd, citing economic factors. This is the second price increase this year, following one in May. The Xbox Series S 512GB will now cost $399 (up $20), and the 1TB model will be $449 (also up $20). Both versions of the Xbox Series X will increase by $50, to $599.99 for the digital edition and $649.99 for the disc edition. The special edition Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black will see the largest jump, increasing by $70 to $799.99. Microsoft says they remain committed to providing value and ways to play games on any screen.
Xbox Series X/S Price Changes (Effective October 3, 2025, US Only)
| Console | Current Price (September 19) | New Price (October 3) |

If you’re planning to buy a new Xbox, you have about two weeks to do so before the price increases. These price changes will happen before the new ROG Xbox Ally handheld gaming devices from Microsoft and ASUS are released on Thursday, October 16th. However, the exact price for both the ROG Xbox Ally and the Ally X models is still unknown with only four weeks until they launch.
Microsoft clarified that the price adjustments will only apply to new Xbox consoles, and existing controllers and accessories will keep their current prices. It’s still unclear how these changes will affect Xbox console sales during the holidays.
