Xbox players have five fresh games to play this Christmas. With many people having time off work or school, it’s a great opportunity to finally start those games they’ve been wanting to play all year. Whether it’s a long-awaited popular title or one of the new Xbox releases, there’s something to enjoy during the holiday break.
Many popular video games are set during the holiday season, even if they aren’t specifically about Christmas. For example, Tom Clancy’s The Division features a snow-covered New York City adorned with festive lights and trees. Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Batman: Arkham Origins both offer snowy Manhattan settings that perfectly capture the seasonal atmosphere. Plus, the original Max Payne is also set in a Christmas-decorated New York and is a relatively quick play.

As a critic always on the lookout for fresh experiences, I was pleased to see five new titles land on Xbox recently. We’ve got 4 in 1 Sports Bundle Vol 2, Abyss DX, Hypercar Racing, Pinball Jam, and the classic Arcade Archives: Space Invaders. A lot of these come from Super PowerUp Games, and they’re clearly aiming for that nostalgic arcade feel of the nineties – which I appreciate! Pinball Jam especially caught my eye; it initially launched on PC but just hit Xbox on December 25th. It’s all about capturing the thrill of real arcade pinball, and it does a great job with a dozen tables, realistic visuals and sound. Plus, it’s got multiple camera angles, missions, and online leaderboards if you’re competitive and want to chase that high score.

It’s a great way to have a variety of casual games on hand for quick fun. Three of the games even support local multiplayer for 2-4 players, making it perfect for when you have guests. If you enjoy this bundle, the original volume, released in August, is also available.
Like Super PowerUp Games’ other titles, Hypercar Racing lets 2 to 4 players compete locally. It’s a fast-paced racing game with different modes like Championship and Arcade. Players can reach speeds of 200 mph while racing against up to 20 opponents, and compete for the best times on online leaderboards, in addition to local multiplayer.

Unlike other games from the series, which are quick and arcade-style, Abyss DX is a full-fledged action-adventure platformer. Set on a desolate Earth in the year 3024, players control Nep2no, a biomechanical robot on a quest to find a powerful energy source known as Gaia.

Developed and published by HAMSTER Corporation, this release marks the company’s 500th game. Available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Nintendo Switch, it features both the original black-and-white and color versions of TAITO’s classic 1978 alien shooter, complete with authentic sound effects.
