Xbox President Says Console Exclusives Are “Antiquated”

The long-standing rivalry between Xbox and PlayStation seems to be fading, and perhaps even ending. Recent comments from Xbox’s President suggest the company believes exclusive games – and the concept of having them – are becoming outdated, signaling a shift in the gaming industry.

Xbox has changed a lot from its peak. Microsoft used to be a leader in gaming, with popular exclusive games like Halo, Gears of War, and Forza. Now, many of those games are also available on PlayStation, and Microsoft’s leadership, Sarah Bond, believes this is a positive change that players want.

“The Biggest Games In The World Are Available Everywhere”

For years, gamers have wished they could play all their favorite titles on one console, which would certainly save money. However, companies need to operate as businesses. And with the gaming industry constantly evolving, Xbox President Sarah Bond recently made a statement (according to Mashable) that feels particularly insightful:

People have moved past the idea of games being limited to specific platforms. The most popular games – like Call of Duty, Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox – are now accessible on almost any device, and that’s what’s truly building gaming communities. These games provide shared experiences where people connect, and restricting access to a single store or device feels outdated. Players want to be able to connect and play with their friends, no matter what platform they’re using, and we’re focused on making that happen.

There’s some truth to the idea that PlayStation and Xbox are becoming more similar. However, you can be sure you’ll never play Mario or Zelda games on those consoles – they’re exclusive to Nintendo.

Recently, the gaming landscape has shifted, and while Sony continues to offer games only on PlayStation 5, Microsoft and Xbox are increasingly focused on new strategies and goals that seem to be constantly evolving.

In case you haven’t heard, Xbox is working on the next generation of its Series X and Series S consoles.
