It’s been hinted that Microsoft’s Xbox team is about to officially announce more games will be playable on both the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future. While it’s not uncommon for Xbox exclusive games to eventually appear on other platforms, these upcoming confirmations could potentially include a game that will also run on the Switch 2, which would be a first for Microsoft.
Last year, Microsoft made public its plan to adapt Xbox-exclusive games for rival systems, starting with titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment. This move followed the closure of the $68.7 billion Activision Blizzard deal by Microsoft a few months prior, and may have been spurred by slow sales of Xbox Series X/S in recent years. As of 2025, Xbox has released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Doom: The Dark Ages, Forza Horizon 5, and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on PS5.
The action-adventure game Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and the third installment of Gears of War, titled Gears of War: Reloaded, are scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 (PS5) next month. The Outer Worlds 2, another highly anticipated title, is set for release on PS5 in October. This year, the lineup of games for PS5 from Xbox seems quite extensive, but it appears that Microsoft may have more releases planned. During a recent episode of The Game Business Show, journalist and industry insider Christopher Dring spoke with Circana executive director Mat Piscatella and suggested that Xbox is expected to announce additional PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 ports in the near future. Although Dring didn’t specify which Xbox games are next in line for a multiplatform release, these announcements could potentially coincide with Gamescom 2025, which will be held from August 20-24.
Xbox Games That Could Come to PS5 and Switch 2 Over the Coming Months
- Avowed
- Doom: The Dark Ages (already on PS5)
- Grounded 2
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (already on PS5)
- South of Midnight
- Starfield
It’s possible that Microsoft could officially announce the long-awaited port of Starfield for PS5. Bethesda has hinted at significant updates for Starfield, due in 2025, so a PS5 version would fit with those plans. Similarly, Obsidian’s upcoming title Grounded 2 might also come to PS5 and Switch 2, given the original game was released on both platforms. There have been whispers about a multiplatform remake of Halo: Combat Evolved for quite some time now. Additionally, Xbox could potentially bring multiplayer titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Doom: The Dark Ages to Switch 2 as well.
Given that Forza Horizon 5 has been PS5’s top-selling game in 2025, it’s not unexpected that Xbox is feeling particularly optimistic about its cross-platform approach. According to Piscatella, gamers are deeply rooted in their preferred gaming environments and social networks, making it challenging to attract them with exclusives solely. Instead, winning now involves meeting players within their existing spaces, a strategy even PlayStation seems to be adopting. Earlier this month, they announced the Xbox version of Helldivers 2.
