As a hardcore Xbox fan with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say, I am thrilled about the latest addition to the Xbox controller family – the Ghost Cipher. Nostalgia hits me right in the feels as transparent technology takes center stage once again. The first time I saw that Sky Cipher controller last year, I knew I had to have it, and now with the arrival of the Ghost Cipher, my collection is complete (almost).

Microsoft, in an official statement, has unveiled the Ghost Cipher controller, the newest addition to their series of see-through controllers. The transparency feature was a popular trend back in the late 90s and early 2000s, and it seems that Xbox is tapping into nostalgia with its contemporary line of controllers.

The initial controller in Xbox’s Cipher series was the Sky Cipher controller. The Sky Cipher debuted last August featuring a blue, translucent exterior. Now, another clear controller is available for purchase, as Xbox enthusiasts can pre-order the Ghost Cipher controller from the Microsoft Store immediately.

Based on earlier rumors, the Xbox Ghost Cipher gamepad is set to debut on October 8. Priced at $69.99, this stylish controller comes in shades of gray, bronze, and silver. Functionally, it’s identical to a standard Xbox controller, but its distinctive design definitely makes it noticeable. For those who prefer different colors, the Xbox Design Lab offers customization options.

Xbox Ghost Cipher Controller Price and Release Date

  • Release Date: October 8
  • Price: $69.99

In addition to unveiling the Ghost Cipher controller, Xbox also shared updates for the Xbox Design Lab, allowing players to design personalized controllers. Following the transparent trend, Xbox Design Lab is now offering users the chance to customize an Elite Series 2 controller using various color themes such as Ghost Cipher, Velocity Cipher (green), Astral Cipher (purple), Surf Cipher (blue), Candy Cipher (pink), and Pulse Cipher (red). As of now, these color options can only be found through Xbox Design Lab. No plans for official releases have been announced yet, with the Ghost Cipher and Sky Cipher controllers being the only exceptions. If the Ghost and Sky designs gain enough popularity, it’s possible that other controllers from the Cipher line may become available at retail stores, although it would likely be through a standard Xbox controller instead of the Elite Series 2.

As an Xbox enthusiast, I can’t wait to get my hands on those custom Elite Series 2 controllers! Alongside them, Xbox fanatics like myself can also grab special chromatic D-pads and rear paddles. You’ve got two fantastic options here – Energy Chroma and Sunset Chroma. The Energy Chroma sports a sleek design with shades of green, blue, yellow, and magenta, while the Sunset Chroma brings bright yellows and hot pinks to the table.

Xbox frequently introduces fresh controller color options, so we can anticipate more variations in the upcoming months. In addition, there are confirmed developments for next-generation Xbox consoles, which may debut with revamped controllers. However, it’s also plausible that they will opt for the style of controllers seen in Series X/S. Only time will tell on that note.
