Phil Spencer has revealed that there is no top-down mandate to use AI for Xbox.
Recent interviews with Xbox leaders Sarah Bond and Phil Spencer have revealed some exciting updates. Bond suggested that the traditional concept of exclusive games is becoming outdated, and confirmed that new versions of the Series X and Series S consoles are currently being planned. Spencer, in a separate interview, discussed how Xbox is exploring the potential of artificial intelligence.
Xbox Lets Creative Teams Choose Whether They Want to Use AI
So, I was reading IGN, and they reported on a talk Phil Spencer gave at a summit. Apparently, a big part of what Xbox is doing with AI right now isn’t about fancy game features, but keeping their networks secure. He said things have gotten so huge that they need AI’s help just to make sure everything’s safe – it’s beyond what people can handle on their own anymore.
That’s why platforms use AI to monitor conversations and topics, safeguard young users, manage who can interact with them, and ensure parental controls are in place when set by parents or guardians.
When it comes to using AI, Xbox trusts its creative teams to decide what works best for them. According to Spencer, forcing a specific AI tool on them wouldn’t be effective. Instead, Xbox provides the tools and lets teams naturally explore and adopt them if they find them helpful.
