Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition: Beginner’s Tips & Tricks

Regardless of your expertise in JRPGs, uncovering all that’s available within the world of Xenoblade Chronicles X can be quite overwhelming.

This game is vast and jam-packed with numerous elements, including battles, exploration, and multiple additional aspects. Although it offers an in-game guide to help you get started, I’m pretty sure only I take the time to read tutorials, don’t you agree?

As an eager enthusiast of the captivating world of Mira in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, I’ve compiled a set of helpful hints and strategic suggestions to ensure your voyage through this extraordinary universe is smoother and more fruitful. Enjoy the adventure!

The upgraded version features several user-friendly adjustments that polished certain aspects compared to the original. However, it may become perplexing quickly if one isn’t clear about the underlying processes.

10. Your Choices Matter—ish

At Least For Party Member Relationships

Initially, the primary narrative presents various conversation choices for our characteristically dynamic lead character right from when the game begins.

These decisions won’t affect the main storyline of the campaign. We’re sticking to one particular narrative. Nevertheless, they can subtly impact some secondary events or activities.

As you move through missions and personal conversations with your teammates, various options for dialogue will become available to you. The choices you make will help you build up affection or rapport with specific teammates, earning you affinity points in the process.

If you aim to build a relationship with a specific character, my advice is to include them in your team prior to engaging in extra missions or activities. Afterwards, choose the dialogue option that seems most fitting for them, and before long, you’ll find yourselves sailing off on a romantic journey together.

9. Don’t Fret Over Divisions

There Are No Differences Between Them

Once you become a part of BLADE, Vandham will give you the opportunity to select from among eight distinct departments that the group specializes in.

In the initial version of the Wii U game, the choices you made regarding the divisions significantly impacted the gameplay. The division you selected influenced the tasks you needed to accomplish to amass Division Points and ultimately boost your BLADE Level.

In contrast, the said feature has been eliminated from the latest edition of ‘Xeno X: Definitive Edition’, transforming it into more of an aesthetic element rather than a functional one. Notably, there are no longer any BLADE or Field Skill levels in this revised version.

Feel free to choose any division that aligns with your character for the roleplay. If you decide to change it later, you can easily do so using the Customization PC located in the Barracks whenever you wish.

8. Grab Every Basic Mission Possible

Complete Them While Exploring

Upon becoming a member of BLADE, you will have the opportunity to participate in various types of assignments, categorized as follows: regular missions, fundamental missions, missions related to your affinity, and narrative missions.

In simple terms, Story and Affinity Missions are tasks that require your full attention. You can only focus on one at a time, and you can’t work on both concurrently. On the other hand, the other missions can be tackled freely.

Common missions are just like typical side-quest in a JRPG game, you can locate them on the map, and finishing certain ones helps increase the exploration level of a particular region. These basic missions can be found via the Mission Control center which is situated outside the BLADE Barracks.

It’s recommended that you pick up any Basic Missions offered to you each time. Some tasks involve slaying creatures, others involve gathering items, while some have unique goals – all are straightforward. You can store up to 20 missions simultaneously.

If you’ve gathered the essential collectible for a given mission ahead of time, the task will be automatically accomplished once you decide to take it on. Moreover, in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, there are indicators for virtually everything, enabling you to accomplish many tasks as you traverse the planet.

In addition to online missions, you can find Support Missions within the Network Console at the Barracks. These are repeatable tasks that provide experience, resources, and additional benefits. Essentially, they serve as great spots for resource gathering or “farming.

7. Play Online Whenever Possible

Though It Requires a Nintendo Subscription

After reaching Chapter 4, the online team function becomes available. This function operates much like the hubs in Monster Hunter, allowing each player to proceed independently, but occasionally combining for joint Online Quests.

Online Quests share many characteristics with Assistance Quests: They’re speedy, focused within specific zones, and offer experience, cash, and battle points as rewards. Moreover, they provide Material Tickets, an unique digital currency exclusively used in the online environment.

Due to these digital passes, it’s advisable to stay connected online as often as possible. While you might not be intending to engage in Online Missions, being part of a Squad allows you to contribute to Squad Assignments.

In this game, tasks range from locating treasures to tracking monsters. If you decide not to handle these tasks, your teammates may do so instead, but you’ll still earn reward tickets. These tickets can be traded for materials used in creating new enhancements and equipment.

6. Miranium Has A Storage Limit

Increase Storage or Spend the Material

In the game Xenoblade Chronicles X, there are two primary forms of currency: credits and miranium. Credits function as money, while miranium is a unique material scattered across Mira that can be used to fund arms manufacturers, develop new enhancements, or finish missions.

One simple rephrasing could be: Multiple strategies exist for obtaining Miranium, yet the optimal approach involves setting up mining probes within FrontierNav, allowing you to accumulate it effortlessly. Remember though, as a precautionary measure, keep in mind that there’s a storage cap on Miranium.

Starting capital is just 6,000 units, which is significantly too small. To prevent unnecessary waste of miranium, you can either invest this material or boost the limit by deploying Storage Probes. I choose a mix of both options, so I don’t have to closely monitor the resource all the time.

5. Equip Your Augments

The Game Forgot This Lesson

In the game Xenoblade Chronicles X, it won’t take you much time before you get familiar with Augments – these are additional items you can insert into your equipment to enhance abilities and boost your character’s strength.

Here lies the challenge: The game describes what items are, but fails to demonstrate how to actually use or equip them. That’s exactly where my expertise comes in handy!

Navigate to the ‘Ground Equipment’ menu and examine your items. Pressing ZL will display Additional Effects. Certain pieces of gear have empty spaces where you can attach an augment by clicking on them.

As a gamer, I can’t help but maximize my potential in this game! Since swapping and adjusting augmentations doesn’t come with any drawbacks, I love piling them onto all my gear. You can get them from completing missions or by crafting at the Arms Manufacturer console – it’s that simple!

4. Upgrade Arts and Skills

You Can Reset Them Anytime

As your class progresses, you will acquire fresh Art and Skill options. You can utilize Battle Points to enhance these abilities, resulting in a substantial increase in their potency.

As a gamer, I often find myself hesitant to invest resources early on when it comes to RPGs with classes, fearing I might regret my choice later. But in the game Xenoblade Chronicles X, you can respec for just a small amount of credits, so don’t be shy about upgrading your Arts!

For optimal performance, it’s generally wise to enhance Arts and abilities tailored to your character type. Overextending yourself to master many areas may make you versatile, but you likely won’t deal as much damage as someone who focuses on a specific area of expertise.

Gain Battle Points through level advancement, item collection for the Collectopedia, uncovering treasure chests, and mission accomplishment – particularly Support Missions. Avoid stockpiling Battle Points; use them up right away instead.

3. Don’t Focus Solely on TP Arts

Equip Arts According to Your Build

In Xenoblade Chronicles, the battles have a similar feel to those found in Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOs). Your characters automatically engage enemies, and you choose skills that regenerate in real time for strategic use.

In general, many forms of art can be utilized without cost, but it’s the most potent pieces that demand a crucial resource known as “Tension Points.” This resource is both precious and challenging to amass, and even more difficult to control effectively.

As a devoted enthusiast, I accumulate Technical Points (TP) through the regular attacks of my weapon, with the rate of acquisition determined by its Technical Point Gain Value. Additionally, certain abilities or Arts also grant me TP. By default, my Max TP stands at 3000, but it’s possible to boost this limit for even greater potential.

Using an Art requires 1000 TP each time it’s cast, which can be quite substantial. Overstocking your toolkit with Arts that consume TP will either result in unused slots on your palette or constant challenges maintaining a sufficient TP level.

Consider tailoring your gameplay approach to suit a particular style. For instance, since there are bonuses for close combat, go for Tension Auras that amplify melee damage. On the other hand, if you prefer to emphasize TP Arts, opt for weapons with high TP Gain Value instead.

2. Prepare Before a Nasty Fight

Fight That Tyrant With a Full TP Bar

Previously noted, certain Art forms utilize Turning Points (TP). Fortunately, these points persist between conflicts, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to predict what I’m hinting at.

Before engaging a boss or tyrant, take out some weaker natives in the vicinity first. This will help replenish your TP (Tactical Points or similar resource) and give you an edge when tackling that challenging battle.

As a devoted fan, I’ve discovered an efficient method to swiftly recharge my TP: by frequently using skills similar to the Commando’s Sliding Slinger, which restores TP upon activation. With the Quick Cooldown feature, I can repeatedly employ this Art on weak enemies, rapidly accumulating TP in record time!

An alternative method of earning TP is through executing a Perfect move during a Soul Battle, which occurs when the requirements for a Soul Cry are met. It might seem complicated initially, but with practice, you’ll dominate the game.

In addition to its other functions, TP can be used to resurrect a fallen party member. The standard price for this service is 3000 TP. So if one of your party members dies and an AI companion has sufficient TP (3000 or more), it will bring you back to life.

Consequently, AI tends to squander its TP excessively. To preserve it instead, adjust their approach to maintaining tension by pressing the ‘+’ key or holding ‘L’ during combat.

1. Exploration Is Never Too Much

Enjoy the Sprawling World of Mira

In his own words, Director Tetsuya Takahashi emphasized that the core concept behind Xenoblade Chronicles X was to provide an expansive environment for players to discover and traverse.

Feel free to explore areas outside the mission guidelines. While the latest edition provides numerous guides for contemporary gamers, there are times when simply wandering can lead to rewarding discoveries.

Discovering concealed attractions, areas, riches, and various extras, you’ll gather additional rewards and boost your exploration progress for further rewards.

Or

You could come across secret landmarks, territories, valuables, and assorted finds, earning extra prizes and enhancing your scouting level to unlock more benefits.

As a collector enthusiast, I can’t help but appreciate the crystal-like trinkets that can be found globally. These captivating pieces have a special place in my heart and are destined for the Collectopedia, an intriguing platform hidden within the Intel menu. By registering these items there, I’m rewarded with additional Battle Points, making the hunt even more exhilarating!

By setting up additional sensors, you’ll be able to collect more resources (funds and miranium) that can then be used to acquire better equipment. Furthermore, these sensors enable quicker travel for enhanced exploration and the discovery of hidden content.

In essence, you should feel free to play ‘Xenoblade Chronicles X’ according to your own preferences. However, don’t shy away from venturing into new areas or challenging established norms. You might discover something unexpected and enjoyable.
