It’s best to finish Yakuza Kiwami 3 before playing the Dark Ties story. Starting with Dark Ties will reveal important plot points from Yakuza Kiwami 3. Yakuza Kiwami 3 continues Kazuma Kiryu’s story and introduces many characters and plot twists. One of those characters is Yoshitaka Mine, who is the main character in Dark Ties.

If you’ve finished Yakuza Kiwami 3, we recommend playing Dark Ties next. It’s a spin-off story that focuses on Mine, and it’s much shorter than the main game. Playing Dark Ties after Yakuza Kiwami 3 will give you a better understanding of Mine’s background, since you’ll already know who he is.
