- Yamato might start a pirate crew with Tobi Roppo and All-Stars to ally with Luffy.
At present, the One Piece series finds itself immersed in the Elbaf arc, with the nation of Giants grabbing most of the limelight. However, it’s important not to overlook other intriguing events unfolding around the world. As regular viewers are aware, Oda has skillfully woven an engaging narrative through his side stories. Unfortunately, many anime fans remain oblivious to these cover stories as only a small number have been brought to life on screen so far, which is quite unfortunate.
Readers of the manga understand that when a cover story unfolds, it significantly enriches the characters, even though the main narrative may be absent. At the moment, One Piece is delving into Yamato’s cover story, the Oni Child, and it appears this arc is laying the groundwork for Yamato to make a significant impact in the future and assist Luffy in a unique manner. It’s possible that Yamato could soon acquire a pirate crew or at least dedicated vassals, as suggested by the progression of the cover story, which is certainly intriguing, to put it mildly.
The Yamato Cover Story

- Yamato Has Been Helping Out The People Of Wano
- Yamato Recently Took Down Who’s Who
In the 26th issue of “One Piece,” Yamato is prominently featured, signaling that Oda intends for this character to hold a significant role in the story. With Kaido no longer posing a threat to Wano from external forces, it appears that Yamato will step up and fill that void. Preparations are underway to make this happen as we speak. The cover story is titled “Yamato’s Golden Harvest Pilgrimage: The Oni Child’s Journey,” in which the Oni Child travels across Wano, mirroring a similar journey Oden took. After being disowned around his 18th birthday, Oden went on to achieve greatness by forming the Nine Red Scabbards and maturing himself. Yamato’s journey is twofold: exploring Wano and delivering Shimotsuki Yasuei’s sword to the Enma Shrine in Hakumai, where he once ruled. Yamato embarks on this journey with optimism, and initially, it seems straightforward. Along the way, Yamato interacts with Momonosuke and Nekomamushi.

In various regions, spectators watched as Yamato embarked on a journey, beginning in Kibi. Interestingly, due to being related to Kaido, Yamato was pelted with stones here. However, Denjiro, the newly appointed Daimyo of Kibi, ensured that those responsible were punished and required them to make amends by sharing Oden with Yamato.

Things become much more intriguing in Wano for Kuri, as strange occurrences like missing women are reported, including Minatomo, a brilliant carpenter who trained Franky during the Wano arc. Yamato, while visiting Amigasa Village, loses Yasuei’s sword and it gets stolen. They chase the thief to Udon where Yamato learns that Holdem is still operational. He attempts to kidnap Tama, but she manages to defend herself by beating Holdem. Under pressure from Yamato, Holdem eventually reveals secrets, leading them to discover a new hideout. This hideout turns out to belong to Who’s Who, a former top-tier member of the Beast Pirates and one of Kaido’s strongest subordinates.
It turned out that the thief who took Yasuei’s sword was actually Who’s Who, and he was also planning the execution of Ulti and Page One. When Who’s Who started causing a disturbance, Yamato intervened with a powerful Thunder Bagua, knocking out Who’s Who.
How Yamato Will Establish Vassals Of Their Own
Yamato Will Make The Tobi Roppo Follow Them
It seems quite evident that Oda is mirroring Yamato’s voyage through Wano with Oden’s past journey. Just like how Oden met Denjiro, Kinemon, Raizo, Kanjuro, orphans such as Kiku and Izo, outcasts like Inuarashi and Nekomamushi during his travels, it appears Yamato is encountering similar characters along her path.
Ultimately, it was on the mountains where Oden vanquished Ashura Doji, the notorious bandit, paving the way for their alliance within Oden’s troops. This union culminated in the formation of the Nine Red Scabbards, a significant event in the narrative.
I want to be like Oden! Oden journeyed across the whole of Wano before he left, right? — Yamato
In this scenario, Oda might repeat a pattern with the Beast Pirates as Yamato, boasting immense charm and exceptional abilities, along with their conqueror status, will likely take on some rowdy characters and recruit them. For example, Yamato has previously rescued Who’s Who and Page One, potentially earning their loyalty. It is possible that Who’s Who may be compelled to accompany Yamato on this adventure as well.
As the team progresses, they could encounter Sasaki, a former Tobi Roppo member, whom they might subdue or persuade to join them. Similarly, Black Maria seems poised to become part of Yamato’s forces, adding another ally to their ranks.
Regarding Drake, his current condition is critical and he hasn’t communicated with the Marines since. Oda has two options for handling Drake in this storyline: either he remains in Wano and eventually joins Yamato or he leaves the country, planning to reunite with the Marines at some point.
In the near future, Yamato might assemble a small squad of Scabbards similar to how Oden had one. However, their path may not be fully resolved yet. There are additional powerful individuals residing in Wano who were once prominent members of the Beast Pirates – Jack, King, and Queen. Despite being past adversaries of Wano, if Yamato manages to overcome them, they could be brought to justice. Furthermore, given Yamato’s relation to Kaido, it’s plausible that these individuals might follow her from then on, as she is his own child.
Will Yamato Start A Pirate Crew?
Yamato Could Eventually Set Sail
It’s crucial that Yamato maintains a substantial fighting force at the ready. Not only does this follow in the footsteps of Oda and Oden, but it also empowers Yamato to take charge independently. Beyond that, Wano requires a strong defense, as was evident when Greenbull attacked the Scabbards. Without Yamato’s presence, they would have likely perished. However, even with Yamato, the defenses might not be sufficient, particularly if adversaries like Blackbeard arrive on the scene.
The reason for this scenario can be traced back to the Ancient Weapon called Pluton, which Blackbeard has been informed about by Caribou. This knowledge might lead Blackbeard to target Wano. To defend Wano, they require not only the Scabbards but also every formidable fighter they can muster. In this regard, Yamato and their Ninne Vassals are crucial. With the six Tobi Roppo and three All-Stars, Yamato will assemble their own crew. When the Final War breaks out, they could sail as a pirate group to join forces with Luffy and the Straw Hats.
Readers can access One Piece through Viz Media’s platforms. Officially and at no cost, fans can read the series on both the Shonen Jump and Manga Plus applications. Mark your calendars for March 23, 2025, as that’s when the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1143, will be published.
