WayForward has unveiled the fresh new trailer for their upcoming science fiction Metroidvania game, Yars’ Revival. This contemporary spin-off of Atari’s iconic Yars series (originally launched an impressive 42 years ago in 1982), revolves around the exploits of Emi Kimura, a hired hacker tasked with penetrating a mysterious organization known as QoTech.
In the original version, the game was a space-shooting spectacle pitting the Qotile against the insectoid Yars. The exact plotline for the upcoming game remains unclear, but the story teaser (provided below) offers some insight into setting up the narrative framework.
Yars Rising is an action-packed 2D platformer, blended with Metroidvania traits, where Emi navigates, leaps, and hacks past numerous waves of extraterrestrial and mechanical adversaries. Over the course of your journey, you’ll discover and develop Emi’s dormant abilities, as per genre tradition, enabling access to previously explored zones and battling formidable bosses to grow stronger and more potent.
