Yet Another Retailer Has Seemingly Abandoned Xbox

Sam’s Club is currently offering Xbox Series X/S consoles at reduced prices, joining a growing number of retailers clearing out their stock with substantial discounts.

Recently, some Xbox players have expressed disappointment with Microsoft’s choices regarding their consoles. Besides a price hike for Xbox Game Pass, the cost of the Xbox Series X/S consoles has also increased. Adding to the frustration, players who canceled their Game Pass subscriptions are now seeing ads on their console home screens. This dissatisfaction isn’t limited to gamers, as retailers seem to be reevaluating their view of Microsoft’s consoles as well.

Another Retailer Sells off Xbox Stock

Sam’s Club is now offering discounts on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. It’s unclear if this is happening at all locations, but shoppers are reporting and sharing photos of significant price drops. For example, one store has the Xbox Series X with 1TB of storage marked down from $499 to around $280. The Xbox Series S, normally $329, is available for as little as $179 in some locations, with other stores offering it for $239.

Recent price hikes for Xbox Series consoles actually make Sam’s Club discounts even better than they seem. Xbox updated its official prices on October 3rd: the Xbox Series X Digital now costs $599.99, and the Xbox Series S 512 GB is $399.99. With Sam’s Club’s lowest price, you can currently buy two Xbox Series S consoles for the price of one at the standard retail cost.

It’s interesting to see Sam’s Club making a similar decision to Costco. After Xbox consoles vanished from Costco’s website, the store confirmed they were selling off their last units and wouldn’t be restocking. While there’s no official reason given for this change, many believe the consoles aren’t selling well in stores. Even a former Blizzard executive, Mike Ybarra, has suggested the Xbox is failing. However, Microsoft still plans to release future Xbox consoles, meaning the brand will continue for now.
