Yoko Taro, the renowned developer behind Nier: Automata, doesn’t hesitate to license his characters, such as 2B, for use in other games. Previously, the developers had stated they would agree to anything for a price. However, Yoko might now be second-guessing his partnership with Goddess of Victory: Nikke.
In a conversation with the developers of Nikke and Stellar Blade (from Shift Up), Yoko expressed this in an interview shared by Genki on Twitter: “Following the collaboration between Nikke and Nier, there was a noticeable shift among Nier cosplayers, particularly those wearing more exposed outfits, towards adopting Nikke cosplay instead of continuing to portray Nier characters. This led me to ponder if perhaps we had made a mistake by collaborating.
After everyone chuckled, it appeared as though Yoko was merely jesting about feeling envious since fans were now dressing up as characters from another game instead. Given that the Nier and Nikke collaboration is set to return on July 3rd, it’s unlikely that Yoko is genuinely upset by the two games collaborating.
Nikke is well-known for its female robot soldier characters who are often voluptuous and scantily dressed. These characters are tasked with saving humanity from mechanical alien threats. Consequently, it’s not hard to spot the resemblance between Nier: Automata and Stellar Blade due to their shared settings.
As a passionate gamer myself, I can tell you that Yoko Taro is determined to generate more income from his games. In fact, during one conversation, he mentioned that if need be, he and producer Yosuke Saito wouldn’t hesitate to sell copies of Nier: Replicant right off the back of a truck just to ensure its release.
