If you enjoyed Parasite Eve, you should add a new survival horror game to your wishlist. This upcoming game draws inspiration from the classic 1998 horror RPG by SquareSoft – the company’s first game to receive a mature rating. Parasite Eve itself was based on a novel by Hideaki Sena. The game is set in New York City, where you play as police officer Aya Brea, fighting against a genetically altered being named Eve who poses a threat to humanity through unpredictable combustion and cellular changes.
Parasite Eve was groundbreaking for its time, combining movie-like storytelling with both fast-paced action and strategic turn-based combat. The game’s excellent soundtrack, composed by Yoko Shimomura, was also highly praised. It quickly became a hit in Japan, earning strong reviews and a devoted fanbase who loved its unique mix of horror and RPG gameplay. This success led to two sequels – Parasite Eve 2 in 2000 and The 3rd Birthday in 2010 – and fans have been hoping for a new installment ever since.
Parasite Eve Fans Should Consider Trying Out Parasite Mutant
Nearly three decades after its release, Parasite Eve continues to influence game design. The upcoming survival horror game Parasite Mutant, created by IceSitruuna, is being marketed as a spiritual successor to the classic. A demo is currently available on Steam, and the full game is planned for release on PC and PlayStation 5, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet. In Parasite Mutant, players take on the role of Nova, a psionic agent investigating a deserted island overrun with horrifying mutants and concealed truths that will alter her destiny. The game focuses on solving puzzles, strategic battles, and unraveling a mystery, all within an atmosphere designed to recreate the suspense and fear that made Parasite Eve’s New York City so impactful.
In Parasite Mutant, the battle system is inspired by the classic Parasite Eve, using a timed gauge system where players carefully time actions, dodge attacks, and then strike strategically. This survival horror game blends traditional RPG elements with features designed for today’s players, including a retro visual filter for a nostalgic look. To add replay value, the game will also have a New Game+ mode and a system for customizing character outfits.
The demo for Parasite Mutant is now available on Steam, letting players try out the beginning of the game and its main combat and horror features. So far, the demo has received very positive feedback, with around 90% of over 50 user reviews praising the gameplay, atmosphere, and graphics.
For years, fans have speculated about a new Parasite Eve game. Many are also hoping for remakes of the original titles, which are now quite old. Currently, all three games can only be played on older PlayStation consoles. Only The 3rd Birthday is available to download, but it’s limited to the PSP or PS Vita.
